Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers says the FA Cup is important to his side, who are struggling in the Premier League.

The Foxes sit 14th in the English top flight, just three points above the relegation zone and face Blackburn, who are fourth in the Championship and aiming for promotion, in the fifth round of the FA Cup this evening.

"It's very big, no matter where we are, but it's even more so this year, the importance of it," said Rodgers, whose side won the trophy in 2021.

"It's never been not important, all the cup games have been that.

"We're playing against a good team, they're doing very well in the Championship up in those play-off positions, they've been used to winning this year.

"I like how they play, so it's going to be a really tough game for us, but we know as each stage of the competition you go through each game gets more difficult.

"This is a chance for us to get to the quarter-final again and we really want to be able to give everything to be able to do that."

  3. 'Stoke under-achieving for a while'published at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2023

    Stoke v Brighton (19:15 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
    Former Blackburn striker

Stoke City are treading water in the middle of the Championship and it feels like they have been under-achieving for a while now.

Brighton knocked out the holders Liverpool in the last round and, with them doing so well in the Premier League, this feels like a great opportunity for them to have a real go at the FA Cup as well.

The Seagulls have just had a free weekend too, after their game against Newcastle United was postponed because of the Carabao Cup final, so there won't be the same need to rest players here either.

    Sutton's prediction: 0-2

Bristol City v Man City (20:00 GMT)

Bristol City need to be at their best against Premier League title chasers Manchester City in their FA Cup tie, says manager Nigel Pearson.

The Robins host the six-time FA Cup winners in the fifth round in Tuesday's sold-out game at Ashton Gate.

The two sides previously met in the Carabao Cup semi-finals in 2018, with Pep Guardiola's side winning 5-3 over two legs.

Bristol City last progressed to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in 1974.

"We need to be as good as we can be on any given day," Pearson told BBC Radio Bristol.

"If you're as good as you can be and your opponents turn out to be better than you, there's not a great deal you can do about that.

"What we've got to try and make sure that we guarantee from ourselves is that our own performance is right, that's all I ever ask from my players, that the individuals do the jobs they are there to do but the most important thing is that collectively to be as good as we can be as a team.

"We need to be at our best, simple."

  9. De Zerbi targets potential future Wembley datepublished at 18:33 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2023

    Stoke v Brighton (19:15 GMT)

Brighton's FA Cup fifth-round tie against Stoke City is a "crucial game" for the club, according to manager Roberto de Zerbi.

"It's a crucial game because we want to arrive at Wembley to play the semi-final," he said.

"OK, there will be another game if we win, but we have to stay focused on Stoke. We studied Stoke and they can play in different ways. They can play with five defenders, sometimes four defenders and we have to be ready to show our quality and to show our mentality.

"Our mentality is more important than our technical or tactical ability.

"We need to find a victory because our last victory was against Bournemouth three weeks ago. We want to win the game and play well."

Fortunes have changed since they last met - in the Premier League - in February 2018.

Stoke are too close to the Championship relegation zone for comfort, Brighton are pushing for the highest league finish in their history.
