  2. Video helps Maguire improve - Ten Hag

FT: Man Utd 3-1 West Ham

    Michael Emons

    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

More from Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, who praised Harry Maguire, Wout Weghorst and the home fans.

Ten Hag on Maguire playing on the right side of central defence, instead of the left: "My way of playing it's better. I prefer to have players with a lot of intensity.

"He had a good performance. He took the initiative in and out of possession, he was demanding the ball, he had some really good moments. I have to give him coaching and instructions.

"I showed him a video [of his performances and of other players] on how to outplay opponents and how to have more of an impact. His skills are really high, for a centre-back he has so many skills and he has to use that."

On Weghorst, Ten Hag said: "He was one of the best players on the pitch. He was involved and forced the own goal from the opponent, for Garnacho's goal he was pressing, with the third goal he was giving a good press and Fred can score.

"He is doing a very good job for the team. At the start of the season Marcus Rashford didn't score every game, but I know that [the goals] will come for him. When he has the first goal, more will come."

On the fans, Ten Hag said: "Togetherness, we build it with the fans. It starts with the team to show energy. The ambiance and energy goes back to the players. With more energy [from the fans] you go faster, keep going to make recoveries, it has a big impact."

  3. 'A massive performance'

FT: Man Utd 3-1 West Ham

    Michael Emons

    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Erik ten Hag felt this victory was again a sign of Manchester United's fighting spirit.

He has just told the news conference: "Again the team showed personality, character, never gave up and turned around the game and won.

"It's very important, a massive performance from our team and where we showed our mentality. We showed we have the character to deal with difficult situations, the team can keep going with energy. It's not about 11 players, the bench can have an impact.

"They believe they can win games and once again they did it and I'm happy with that process. This team does not show panic and can change the dynamic of the game.

On Alejandro Garnacho, who scored Manchester United's second goal: "Today was another step for him. I said before the game you have to have an impact as a starter and I think he is capable of that.

"It's a great skill when you're fearless and brave. There's not so many players that can take on a player and dribble and he has more skills than that. He has a big energy and is fast and can keep on running."

  4. Post update

    A recap of tonight's results:

    Southampton 1-2 Grimsby Town

    Burnley 1-0 Fleetwood Town

    Manchester United 3-1 West Ham

    Sheffield United 1-0 Tottenham

  5. Moyes disappointed with 'ridiculous' errors

FT: Man Utd 3-1 West Ham

    Michael Emons

    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

A massively disappointed West Ham manager David Moyes has just told the news conference: "We had a great opportunity to get through tonight and blew it.

"I thought we had a great chance to get through, I really did, but we couldn't see it through. We gave away two ridiculous goals. We had moments when we could've got the game and I thought the worst we would get out of the game was extra time.

"Michail Antonio had two one-on-ones with the goalkeeper, they were really big chances. For long periods, 60-70% of it, we had good control of the game.

"I told the players I'm more disappointed we couldn't get through and we had a great opportunity to knock United out. We didn't do the basics well enough, some really simple things."

  6. 'West Ham arguably the better side'

FT: Man Utd 3-1 West Ham

    Pat Nevin

Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

There was lots of chances created from West ham and Benrhama caused loads of problems.

They played well and they were arguably the better side, but the changes made from Man United was brilliant.

Moyes might have survived if he had another central defender to bring on.

  7. 'The resilience and belief was magnificent'

FT: Man Utd 3-1 West Ham

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag speaking to ITV1: "It was not easy, it is never easy after you win a cup and celebrate, then you have to get back to business as usual that was our task and finally we found a way to win.

"The resilience and belief they were going to win was magnificent.

On Alejandro Garnacho's goal: "It was a great goal, you could see he was growing into the game and taking players on, he was difficult to stop and he was really a threat.

"It was a great goal but I think it was the total set up for the last 30 minutes. I had a strong feeling we could win the game, you could see the belief and composure there was never any panic."

On playing Fulham in the next round: "It will be difficult they are playing really well so we will have to be at our best to win."

  10. 'We made it hard but it was an amazing reaction'

FT: Man Utd 3-1 West Ham

    Manchester United

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire speaking to ITV1: "We made it hard work for ourselves. We was poor in the first half, we have got to start better than that.

"We conceded a soft goal but it is an amazing reaction and we kept fighting and it really felt like it was coming.

"Garnacho is very good, he is a young boy with amazing talent he has got the world at his feet if he works and trains hard like he is at the moment.

"The best teams never stop believing. I am not saying we are one of the best teams yet, we have a lot to do but we are getting there, we are taking steps forward we have a philosophy we were really trying to score. It felt like the Stretford End was sucking the goal in at the end there."

  11. Post update

The fans were brilliant tonight they pushed them to the end and in my mind they are favourites against Blackburn in the next round.

Kevin: Alejandro Garnacho will get all the plaudits and rightly so. But Wout Weghorst was an absolute monster today.

Beautifulnaija: Just witnessed Wout Weghorst's incredible work rate in tonight's FACup match! The guy never stops running and putting in the hard yards for his team. A true inspiration to all aspiring footballers out there!

  15. 'The performance from all the players was first class'

    FT: Sheff Utd 1-0 Tottenham

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "The performance today had youth and energy and they can all handle the ball very well the younger lads.

"The performance from all the players was first class and the experienced boys at the back was class too.

"Tactical changes were made to win the game and fresh legs was needed for us to get the win. You can make all the subs in the world, but the players sill need to perform.

"We have a lot of league games now before the next game and this competition is parked now and it's onto the league. The Championship is what we are fighting for, but we do try to enjoy the FA cup just as much and I feel the fans are a lot less apprehensive."

On being in the stands: "I wasn't looking forward to being on the gantry but the players made me enjoy it!"

  17. Moyes left regretting missed chances

FT: Man Utd 3-1 West Ham

    Michael Emons

    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

At full time at a frantic finish at Old Trafford, the home fans chanted 'que sera, sera, whatever will be will be we're going to Wem-ber-lee' and with a home tie against Fulham in the quarter-finals, they will have a great chance to return to the national stadium next month for the semi-finals.

However, United will not be able to give away as many chances against Fulham, seventh in the Premier League, as they did against West Ham.

Former Manchester United boss David Moyes now has just the one win in 18 against his old side at Old Trafford and will be regretting the two missed chances that would have taken his side 2-0 ahead.

Pablo Fornals fired just wide minutes after Said Benrahma's goal with Michail Antonio also denied, one of many excellent saves David de Gea made throughout the 90 minutes.

  18. Post update

With the season they're having, and with a home tie against League Two's Grimsby Town in the quarter-final, could this be Brighton's year to win the FA Cup?

Hit the thumbs up if you think they're in with a shot.

Sam: Manchester United v Fulham is an interesting two teams chasing European football. Sad that Manchester City may have to beat one of their own but he’ll know a thing or to about how City play.

Daniel Lowbridge: Grimsby mariners to beat Brighton seagulls. Think Eric Cantona said something about them chasing the other, lol.

  20. 'I can only apologise to the fans'

    FT: Sheff Utd 1-0 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham assistant manager Cristian Stellini speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "If you don't win a game like this its because something was not perfect and today our energy was not enough to put the opponent in a great difficulty.

"We had opportunities to score, but now we have to analyse the goal we conceded. In the moment if you concede a goal you need time to recover.

"There was more energy from the changes, but we have to improve a lot.

"I can only apologise to the fans for our performance and they deserve much more than this."
