Bristol City, who are pretty much bang in the middle of the Championship, are rank outsiders to advance past a Manchester City side that could yet win a Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup treble this season.

But if they were to pull off a shock we'd be in Brian Tinnion or Donnie Gillies territory this evening.

Tinnion memorably curled in a left-foot winner for the Robins as they knocked out Liverpool at Anfield in a third-round replay in 1994.

Meanwhile, Gillies made the front pages of the national newspapers for his winner against a superb Leeds side that had not lost in any of their 29 top-flight matches and who would go on to win the title in 1973-74.

  2. Passing out from the backpublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2023

    Stoke 0-1 Brighton

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the bet365 Stadium

That's about four times now that Brighton have played it out from the back despite the close attention of attackers intent on a very high press.

Obviously, if there is any mis-control or misplaced pass, the visitors are going to be in massive trouble but their manager evidently trusts them.

Moises Caicedo tries his luck from a full 30 yards out for the visitors. It was ambitious but off target as his grass-cutter zips just wide of the post.

  4. A rare chance for Phillips to shine?published at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2023

So Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips has been given a rare start by Pep Guardiola.

The England midfielder, a £45m summer signing, has suffered with injuries and been out of favour so far this campaign starting just one game.

The 27-year-old was also criticised by Guardiola for being overweight and he has struggled to get meaningful game time off the bench.

But he was given 35 minutes at the Bournemouth at the weekend and could see more action in the season's decisive weeks.

Guardiola said: "Kalvin is adapting and adjusting a little bit. Some players need a bit more time. "I have the feeling he needs a little bit more time to learn more about our rhythm, but it was so important for him to play the minutes he played at Bournemouth for the rhythm.

"Of course we need him until the end of the season because there are many games, but Rodri is so important at the moment. That is the reason why (he has not played much)."

Chris Sutton's predictionsImage source, BBC Sport

You should know by now that I am a stickler for the correct terminology when two teams called United play, and the same rules apply here.

This is a tale of two 'Citys' and I don't think it will be quite as one-sided as some people might expect.

Bristol City are unbeaten in 12 games under Nigel Pearson and I like the job he is doing there.

They have got some talented young players, including Sam Bell - a 20-year-old winger that a lot of Premier League sides have apparently been watching - and they will fancy their chances of causing an upset.

But Manchester City will be ready and boss Pep Guardiola always picks a strong team in the FA Cup because he wants to hoover up every trophy he can.

His side got a good win at Bournemouth on Saturday and should have too much for the Robins too, but I am expecting spells where Pearson's side make things difficult for the Premier League champions.

    Sutton's prediction:1-3

  7. 'Shouldn't need a second invitation'published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2023

    Fulham 0-0 Leeds

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

I thought McKennie should have had the shot himself. It opens up so well for him, he doesn't need to pass that. It is a good run from Summerville but when you are 18 yards out you shouldn't need a second invitation.

    Fulham 0-0 Leeds

Marek Rodak in the Fulham goal has to be quick off his line and brave to dive at the feet of Leeds' Crysencio Summerville as he looked to get on the end of a one-two with Weston McKennie after a fine run.

Lovely to hear the chant of “there’s only one John Motson” at Craven Cottage on the BBC One coverage. A fine fitting tribute from the fans!

    Stoke 0-1 Brighton

Brighton have avoided defeat in their last eight matches when scoring the opening goal in the FA Cup dating back to 28 January, 2017 against Lincoln City (lost 1-3).

Meanwhile, Stoke have failed to win in their last seven games when conceding the opening goal in the English FA Cup dating back to 4 January, 2015 against Wrexham.

Bristol City come into this evening's fixture against Manchester City on the back of a 12-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

That includes wins against Championship rivals Swansea and promotion hopefuls West Brom in the earlier FA Cup rounds.

Sam Bell was very much the hero in both those matches as you'll see below in the highlights from them both.

  13. No VAR at Stokepublished at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2023

    Stoke 0-1 Brighton

Just a reminder that there is no VAR at Stoke tonight.

It is only operational at FA Cup ties being played at Premier League grounds.

    Leicester 0-0 Blackburn

Decent chance at the other end as Sammie Szmodics tests Daniel Iversen in the Leicester goal.

A foot further right and that's nestling right into the bottom right corner. As it is the Foxes keeper saves comfortably.

  15. Postpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2023

    Leicester 0-0 Blackburn

Another good save from Blackburn goalkeeper Aynsley Pears, who gets down at his near post to prevent Leicester forward Jamie Vardy from a trademark goal.

Vardy, who had a couple of men in support could have opted to pass there but given he hasn't scored since 20 December (against MK Dons in the Carabao Cup) probably understandable he took that on.

  16. 'Brilliant pass'published at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2023

    Stoke 0-1 Brighton

    Lyle Taylor
Nottingham Forest striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

An absolutely brilliant pass from Lewis Dunk to find the run of Kaoru Mitoma. And he is unselfish squaring it for Johnny-on-the-spot Evan Ferguson to roll into an empty net.

    Stoke 0-1 Brighton

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the bet365 Stadium

That was a touch of class from Brighton, who cut open the Stoke defence with some incisive passing that ended with Kaoru Mitoma crossing from Evan Ferguson to tap into an empty net.

Brighton are a team on the up at the moment.

Their fans are singing about going to Wembley. Don't bet against it.

  18. goal

GOAL - Stoke 0-1 Brightonpublished at 30 mins

    Evan Ferguson

The Premier League side strike first and it is a lovely goal from Brighton. The ball is played out from the back by Lewis Dunk wide left. Kaoru Mitoma gets there and plays a perfect pass that cuts out goalkeeper Jack Bonham and Evan Ferguson has the routine task of sticking it into the net.

The goal had come shortly after Stoke's best chance, with Tyrese Campbell having a low shot on target, well held by Jason Steele.
