Another big moment in that match was Mohamed Salah's penalty miss.

He had scored 18 of his 20 penalties in the Premier League but has missed his last two.

In fact, the last two penalties in the Premier League to miss the entire goal frame have been taken by Salah.

Paul: Awful lot of psychics popped up all of a sudden proclaiming the title race already over. Amazing for fans of a league people claim is the best in the world and toughest. City may well win it but those saying it’s over today are idiots.

Rezaa: Everyone saying Arsenal lost title are the same people saying they wouldn't make top 4 before the season started. Whatever happens, this season has been a huge success.

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to the BBC: "We all saw that before - a team full of confidence and one that lacks confidence. The team with confidence scored and then we had to find a way back. We had to run a lot and work a lot but that is normal. In a game against Arsenal you have to close the centre. We had our struggles but when we were more compact and played with more direction it was good.

"In the end it is a question of how can we not win this game. It is obviously much better than getting nothing. I am not overly happy but I am absolutely OK with it."

On the incident between the assistant referee and Andrew Robertson: "I didn't see it at all. I heard something happened. I heard the pictures speak for themselves but I don't know more."

Liverpool had 19 shots inside the box against Arsenal, the most efforts that the Gunners have faced in a Premier League match since this data became available (2003-04 onwards).

  9. 'We have to take the point'published at 19:08 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    FT: Liverpool 2-2 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports: "Wow. Very intense game. The game was under control but after that we concede a really sloppy goal and the game shifted momentum. We started well in the first few minutes [of the second half] but then lost control. It became a very transitional game, very chaotic. Liverpool could score three or four. It is true we could have scored two or three so maybe at the end the score is fair.

"I haven't seen anyone do it [dominate] in this ground this season. They beat every big team here, they played Real Madrid and could have been four up after 20 minutes. They are going to have moments. You need to deal with them and we did. Our goalkeeper had a big part in that.

"We could taken three points. We should do that [play like the first half] for another 15 minutes and then the game would have taken a very different trajectory. We didn't. We have to take the point."

Asked what the point means for the title race, Arteta said: "Move on. Convince them to keep playing like we did in the first 30 minutes."

  11. 'At 2-0 we had the game in our hands'published at 19:02 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta told BBC Sport: "I imagine for the outside world it was a great game to watch. We started really well. Just before half-time we conceded and we gave Liverpool some momentum.

"We lost control and started to give a lot of balls away. The game became open. We needed resilience, we needed our keeper in the last moment. I think a draw is a fair result.

“The crowd got going. The goal gave them some hope. At 2-0 we had the game in our hands. That was our chance to kill the game. Then we made a mistake. We had to show our resilience and our luck at times."

On Aaron Ramsdale: “He was superb again today. You need your goalkeeper at Anfield. It’s a shame after how we started. The big lesson is in the first half that they came here and played with that personality."

    This is how things stand.

Liverpool remain in eighth, two points below Brighton having played a game extra.

  13. 'How we didn't win, I don't know'published at 18:56 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    FT: Liverpool 2-2 Arsenal

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to Sky Sports: "A bit typical for us this season. An open game, completely open, they score with the first situation and the second one. Our reaction was good. It was a spectacular game in the end. How we didn’t win it with those late chances I don’t know.

“I’m caught in between [being happy and not]. I have no problems with drawing. Arsenal were good but they could and should have lost this game. The point for them is better.

“We had moments and chances where we didn’t finish the situations off. Slightly typical. They’re flying so they score with their first chance. The goal we scored helped massively. At half-time it wasn’t over. It was a sensational atmosphere. Good moment to get the equaliser.

“All of a sudden we were in charge of a wild game. We deserved at least a point. If Ibou [Konate] uses his head [for a late chance] it’s a goal. Maybe he slipped. He had a chance, it was just there.”

On his thoughts on the Andy Robertson clash with the assistant referee at half-time: “Nothing. I know it happened but I didn’t watch it. If it happened the pictures will speak for themselves.”

City have just won the league, and Arsenal fans don't realise it.

    John, Liverpool

When all is said and done, Arsenal have dropped 2 huge points there. The game was in their hands and they showed they don’t have the mentality to get a huge result when the pressure is really on. Worry signs as the run in starts and City now in control of their own destiny.

I really don’t know what he [assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis] was thinking. As far as I can see, he has to be banned.

He will have to sit out a number of games. I can’t remember another incident like this. Where is the precedent set for these things?

A big debating point was Aleksandar Mitrovic and the eight game ban and the FA want him banned for more but you can’t have assistants throwing elbows. What should the punishment be?

  16. 'Frustrated but we have to take a point'published at 18:50 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Arsenal

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, speaking to the BBC: "It was a crazy game. We started really good. The first 40 minutes before they scored we controlled the game. After their goal the game changed a bit and we didn't manage to keep the ball.

"They created a lot of chances. Aaron [Ramsdale] was very good back there and saved us. Frustrated not to win but we have to take the point and move on.

"Against this team you need to be very good on the ball. If you give away the ball they will run at you and the fans create momentum."

Arsenal have scored in 28 of their 30 games, more often than any other team in the Premier League this season.

Mohamed Salah attempted 10 shots in this game, the highest total for a Liverpool player in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal are undefeated in their last 8 games in the Premier League, their last longer unbeaten streak was from 18 September 2022 to 22 January 2023, a run of 13 games.

  19. 'We showed character'published at 18:44 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold to Sky Sports: "Intense. Very good game of football. Both sides played great football at times. We didn’t start like we wanted to but we showed character. We had a huge chance to win it at the end but we’ll take a point.

"We lacked intensity and weren’t compact enough as a team [at the start]. Towards the end of the first half we started playing the way we wanted to and definitely in the second half. Against a team like that you’ll get punished for not starting quickly enough."

On his clash with Granit Xhaka: "I think a little bit of fire in a game like that there’s nothing wrong with it. He nudged me off the ball so it’s a natural reaction to do it back. It got the crowd going."

"Every game we want three points. Disappointed to not get it today but there are lessons in there."

Rick: Just watched the best game of the season - not for the quality but the sheer drama, frenetic to and fro. Draw a fair result - neither team deserved to lose, well done both teams, what a spectacle!
