    Sunderland 1-5 Stoke

Alex Neil has a 100% record as a visiting manager at the Stadium of Light. He has now won there with Norwich, Preston and Stoke.

Sunderland fans let him know exactly what they thought of him as he was greeted with a crescendo of boos following his departure last August.

But Neil has thick skin and his team responded in the perfect manner as not many would have predicted Stoke going up there and scoring FIVE.

It's the first time they have scored five on the road since 1 January 2020.

Cardiff's seismic win against Bristol City in their early kick-off has done their survival fight the world of good as they finish the day six points off the Championship drop zone.

Wigan's draw with Birmingham keeps up their hopes of staying up along with Blackpool holding out for a goalless draw against runaway leaders Burnley.

Meanwhile Stoke move up by virtue of their thumping win at Sunderland, Rotherham also move up while Reading's 5-0 loss to Middlesbrough moves them down to 15th.

QPR, meanwhile, drop to 20th after they lost to the Millers and are winless in 12 league games and well and will be looking over their shoulders as the season winds down.

This is how the top of the Championship looks this evening.

Burnley's goalless draw against struggling Blackpool does nothing to diminish their sizable lead at the top, which was aided by Sheffield United's loss to Blackburn.

Rovers had moved up to third following the early kick-off but Middlesbrough moved back above them after hammering Reading 5-0.

Luton and Norwich jump up into the final two play-off spots while Millwall and Watford drop places, with Coventry moving up to eighth.

Sunderland's heavy home defeat by Stoke means they drop to 10th.
