  1. Post update

    Croatia 0-0 Wales

That's fine work from Dan James, who races back to dispossess Josip Juranovic.

Wales will need plenty of that endeavour tonight.

  2. Post update

    Croatia 0-0 Wales

    Helen Ward

Former Wales striker on BBC Radio Wales

When Wales do get the ball they need to be good in possession and maintain it for as long as they can to try and build some sort of attack.

Wales need to stay strong, stay compact and stay organised.

  3. Post update

    Croatia 0-0 Wales

Joe Morrell is caught by Mateo Kovacic.

A free-kick for Wales deep in their half - and a chance to get up the pitch.

  4. Moore set for a long night?

    Croatia 0-0 Wales

Wales as expected, are playing four at the back.

Then come Joe Morrell and Ethan Ampadu at the base of midfield, with Harry Wilson, Aaron Ramsey and Dan James slightly further forward.

Kieffer Moore is all alone up front - and could be in for a long night.

  5. Post update

    Croatia 0-0 Wales

    Michael Pearlman

BBC Sport Wales at Stadion Poljud, Split

I'm not a football coach, but giving the ball to Luka Modric and allowing him space to run and shoot, that seems like a bad idea.

  6. Post update

    Croatia 0-0 Wales

    Nathan Blake

Former Wales striker on BBC Radio Wales

Wales can't afford to give the ball away so easily.

  7. Post update

    Croatia 0-0 Wales

    Nathan Blake

Former Wales striker on BBC Radio Wales

If you're Rob Page you have to put a lot of faith in people, hope for the best and hope that they can pull a performance out.

  8. Modric strike saved by Ward

    Croatia 0-0 Wales

The first shot of the night comes from Croatia, with Luka Modric taking aim from 25 yards.

    Danny Ward saves well.

  9. Post update

    Croatia 0-0 Wales

Croatia are in blue tonight, rather than their familiar red and white, while Wales are all in white.

It is the blue shirts bossing the ball in the opening exchanges.

  10. KICK-OFF

    Croatia 0-0 Wales

We are under way in Split.

Can Wales upset Croatia? We are about to find out.

  11. Wales fans - not confident

    Croatia v Wales (19:45 GMT)

    Michael Pearlman

BBC Sport Wales at Stadion Poljud, Split

I'll try not to turn this into a #humblebrag but walking around Split, which is lovely, today, we have met hundreds of Wales fans, most of whom wanted a selfie with BBC Radio Wales pundit Nathan Blake.

Chatting to those fans, not a single one predicted a Wales win tonight.

    Not one.

  12. James 'a key player' for Wales

    Croatia v Wales (19:45 GMT)

    Dan James in training

Daniel James has been a mainstay of the Wales team under Robert Page, and there is more onus on the on-loan Fulham winger to deliver goals and assists in the post-Gareth Bale era.

Yet James has had a frustrating time since joining Fulham from Leeds United, having played only 28 Premier League minutes in 2023.

Page, though, has absolute faith in the former Swansea City player.

"He's a key player for us. He's still got the same ability and he's still the same talent," Page said.

  13. Post update

    Croatia v Wales (19:45 GMT)

    Helen Ward

Former Wales striker on BBC Radio Wales

I'm excited to see Aaron Ramsey, when you see a fully fit and flying Aaron Ramsey I think he is one of the best.

  14. Ramsey eyeing more Wales history

    Croatia v Wales (19:45 GMT)

Video caption: 'Proud' Aaron Ramsey says regaining the Wales captaincy 'is a dream come true again'

Aaron Ramsey was all smiles this week when he met the media to discuss his appointment as Wales captain.

Even with some of the stars of recent years gone, Ramsey says this Wales squad is capable of "making their own history".

This is the second stint with the armband for the Nice midfielder, of course.

He was just 20 years old when he was made Wales skipper by Gary Speed in 2011.

The following year, he was replaced by Ashley Williams after a heavy defeat in Serbia.

Ramsey will hope the start of his second spell is not marked by another difficult night in the former Yugoslavia.

  15. Gunter's new role

    Croatia v Wales (19:45 GMT)

Chris Gunter and Robert Page in training

Chris Gunter may have retired from international football, but the 109-cap defender is still around.

Gunter is absent from AFC Wimbledon duty this week after joining Robert Page's staff for this game and Tuesday's meeting with Latvia in Cardiff.

He is not the only new face in the Wales backroom team, with Manchester United first-team coach Eric Ramsay and West Ham's Nick Davies joining on a part-time basis.

  16. Brooks on his way back

    Croatia v Wales (19:45 GMT)

    David Brooks

There is no David Brooks in the Wales squad tonight, with the Bournemouth midfielder still building his fitness having only just returned to club action having been diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin lymphoma in October 2021.

Having announced he was cancer free in May 2022, Brooks was back on the field in the Premier League at Everton last weekend.

Wales boss Robert Page says Brooks will return to the international fold in June, when his side face qualifiers against Turkey and Armenia.

"I have spoken to him about how important he is for me and to the future of Welsh football," Page said.

  17. Lovren and Strinic honoured

    Croatia v Wales (19:45 GMT)

    Michael Pearlman

BBC Sport Wales at Stadion Poljud, Split

There will be a pre-match ceremony for former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren and Ivan Strinic.

Lovren retired earlier this year, while Strinic retired in 2019.

Both were World Cup finalists with Croatia in 2018, with Lovren also part of the squad who reached the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup.

As well as saying goodbye to two former players, there will also be a moment of silence.

That is to honour former Croatia coach Miroslav Ciro Blazevic (who led the team to the 1998 World Cup semi-final) who died in February and former Hajduk Split forward Peter Nadoveza, who died earlier this month.

    Dejan Lovren
  18. Post update

    Croatia v Wales (19:45 GMT)

    Nathan Blake

Former Wales striker on BBC Radio Wales

Croatia are a formidable opponent and they don't take anyone for granted. It is a huge ask for Wales.

We could have a fully fit, young, 25-year-old Gareth Bale and this would still be be a really difficult game for anyone in the world to come and get a result.

  19. Who will qualify for Euro 2024?

    Croatia v Wales (19:45 GMT)

Qualifying is under way for Euro 2024, with England, Belgium and France among the sides who have already claimed notable wins in this international break.

But who do you think will make it to Germany?

BBC Sport is giving you the chance to make your predictions.

  20. Post update

    Croatia v Wales (19:45 GMT)

    Nathan Blake

Former Wales striker on BBC Radio Wales

Croatia have never lost a European qualifier at home, but records are there to be broken.
