It's much better from West Ham as Lucas Paqueta heads the ball on to Jarrod Bowen. The England winger cuts inside before catching AZ keeper Matt Ryan on his heels with a near-post shot. His strike though flies just off target.

Jarrod Bowen can't keep the ball in play down the right. He's hardly touched the ball in the second half. West Ham's front three have been very quiet.

It's all gone a little stop-start as West Ham's Lucas Paqueta gets a yellow card for a late challenge on AZ defender Pantelis Hatzidiakos.

Jordy Clasie then gets a yellow for time wasting.

Lucas Paqueta is not having a good game. He wins the ball back but can't slide Said Benrahma through with the West Ham winger making a teasing run.

It's just not clicking for West Ham at the mo. AZ look very, very comfortable.

Compared to the first half, which was celebratory with a lot of excitement, there seems to be a little bit of a slump as people make their way back to their seats.

It gets all scrappy with Michail Antonio battling for the ball but the visitors eventually hack it away.

West Ham win a free-kick on the halfway line. Loud ironic jeers from the home supporters towards the referee.

A double change for Juventus at the start of the second half.

Federico Chiesa and Samuel Iling-Junior replace Filip Kostic and Fabio Miretti.

Iling-Junior is a former Chelsea youth product and has represented England from under-15 to under-20 level.

AZ Alkmaar have never won in England, this would be some result. They've been bright after the restart too.

I mentioned earlier on that AZ were slowing the game down at times, taking the sting out of West Ham and then increasing the tempo when they have the ball.

That is how they got the goal. West Ham can complain about the push on Lucas Paqueta but they failed to react to the danger and were punished - albeit Alphonse Areola should have done better.

They need to control the game at their pace, not AZ's. If they stretch AZ, by definition, they have better players and have more chance.

If you ask any goalkeeper, or anyone in football, they'll say Areola should have done better for the goal.

The ball bounced just in front of him, it wasn't overly powerful, and it has caught him a bit by surprise.

For a goalkeeper of Areola's level, you expect him to save it.

I think there has been a couple of moments where the referee could have stepped in and given free-kicks. There have been a few rough challenges that I think we would have seen given as free-kicks in the Premier League.

I think he has been keen to let the game flow - to pull it back and rule out the goal for the push on Paqueta would have been a bit soft - but you do expect more from a referee at this level.

Paul:I want West Ham win this cup but Moyes is just like Southgate for England. He’s got a lot of talent and ability at his disposal but his tactics and cautious approach hold them back. It may work for a while but it will eventually stop working. And for them it has.
