When Chelsea brought Pernille Harder on last week at Wembley she was the game changer.

For the goal, she timed her run to perfection and put an absolute delightful ball into Sam Kerr's path for the match winning goal against Man United.

Against West Ham last time out in the WSL she came on and unlocked the home side's defence. She helped to set the team on their way to victory, when she came on in that game she helped open up the door for Sam Kerr.

The Toffees will finish mid-table while Brighton are clear of relegation danger.

This is a Chelsea side that love to play on the big stage. They delivered last week again in front of a record crowd at Wembley to pick up yet another FA Cup. Adding another trophy to their cabinet.

You can see the depth in that squad and the talent that is in there, this a team that lives for the big moments. In the moments that mattered last week [against Man United], in a very difficult game, they came through.

  5. 'Arsenal have shown their spirit'published at 12:23 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Chelsea v Arsenal (12:30 BST)

Chelsea will want to "bounce back" from their last game against Arsenal - a 3-1 defeat in the Continental Cup final, but Blues manager Emma Hayes says it will be difficult against "one of the top teams in Europe".

"Arsenal have shown their spirit, their qualities even with their injuries. They are a top team," Hayes added earlier this week.

Arsenal are looking to become the first side to go four consecutive WSL games unbeaten against Chelsea since Manchester City went 10 in a row without defeat between 2014 and 2019.

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall speaking pre-match: "It starts with the way we perform off the ball, our pressing, our positioning, how we work as a team. Also building out from the back we know will be such an important moment of the game today. Chelsea's players are very talented up there [in attack], they are very explosive players, but if we can keep the ball well and make them work hard without the ball, that is a key to succcess.

On the absence of Lia Walti and other injured players: "We have tools. We have many players that are working extremely hard coming back into the squad like Steph Catley and Lina Hurtig, which gives us some options from the bench as well - that is important for us and that is what we are focusing on.

On their title hopes and European football: "I'm not thinking about that, I'm thinking about the game that we have in front of us. It is going to be a very challenging game and we know that we need to be at our very best and give everything for the entire 90 minutes here.

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 13 London derbies in the Women’s Super League (W9, D4) since a 3-0 away defeat to Chelsea in February 2021.

Only Chelsea between November 2018 and May 2021 (14, games) have ever had a longer unbeaten run in London derbies.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes speaking pre-match: "These are the positions you work to be in. You want to be in a state where you are at home and you have the chance to compete for the title. It will be packed here today and it will be a great atmosphere. We can't wait.

On departing players Pernille Harder and Magda Eriksson: "The fans will certainly cherish all of the memories they have shared with those two players. We've won lots of titles together and I know they will receive a fitting send off from our fans because it is what they deserve. Let's hope we can make it a good one. "

A first WSL title since 2019 remains a possibility for Arsenal, who ended a four-year wait for silverware earlier this season by beating Chelsea in the League Cup final.

However, their poor form against the other top four clubs - four points from five WSL games so far - and a run of three league games without victory to start 2023 leave Jonas Eidevall's side as outsiders.

"Our mentality is to win," said Eidevall. "It doesn't change. We try to win it all."

Should Arsenal win their two remaining games, they have a chance - but they can only reach a maximum of 53 points so would need United and Chelsea to slip up in both of their remaining games.

Any other scenario sees the title go down to the final day.

But two other Chelsea favourites will be playing their last games in front of a home crowd today.

It was announced earlier this week captain Magdalena Eriksson and forward Pernille Harder will leave the club at the end of the season.

Eriksson has spent six seasons with Chelsea, while Harder has been there for three - both have played a key role in recent success.

They will be given a warm farewell at the end of today's game and the perfect send-off would be another WSL title...

The Blues' title chase has a feeling of inevitability about it. They are hunting a fourth straight WSL title and know that the destination of the trophy this season is in their hands.

However, there is one big obstacle still standing in their way - Arsenal. The teams have already met three times this season, with Chelsea winning in the FA Cup, the Gunners winning in the League Cup final and the points shared in the league.

Emma Hayes' side have come into form at just the right time, having recovered from a 2-0 loss at Man City on 26 March. They have also caught up - and now overtaken - Man Utd's goal difference, having scored 17 goals in their last three WSL matches - a 7-0 win at Everton, a 6-0 home thrashing of Leicester and a 4-0 win at West Ham.

"You saw in that performance against Everton, we get better as the season goes on and this is really the time for us to show why we've won so many trophies," said striker Sam Kerr.

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall says beating a "very strong Chelsea side" will require a perfect performance.

Chelsea have not dropped a single point on home soil in the Women’s Super League this season, winning all 10 matches.

The only other time a side has won 100% of their home games in a season was Chelsea themselves in 2019-20

"We know we need to be at our very best and give maybe our best performance of the season in order to get the result we want," Eidevall said earlier this week.
