    Jack Taylor (20 mins)

Sheffield Wednesday keeper Cameron Dawson won't want to see this again.

It's a poor showing from the Owls full stop to be honest.

They look to have a chance to clear their lines from the right-back position after a Posh corner but fluff it and then, when the ball is played in, a Wednesday interception presents the ball to Jack Taylor.

He takes a crack for the near post and it squirms under Dawson and into the Owls net.

    Advantage Peterborough!

Frankie Kent takes one for the team.

Sloppy, sloppy play from the home side presents Josh Windass with the ball 30 yards out and he charges for goal.

Kent has little option but to take him out as he looks to go by him.

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson is in his fourth spell in charge of the club.

He's won promotion in each of the previous three.

Should he manage to take them up this season that will be a fifth promotion as Posh gaffer. Some record.

His side are having the better of the possession at the moment but the best chance so far undoubtedly went to Wednesday striker Michael Smith.

What a save that was. Will Norris stayed tall and waited until the last moment to save with a big left hand. When his team needed him to step up, he did.

A goal there would have killed the gameplan for Peterborough because it was a gift for Sheffield Wednesday. You would have expected to Michael Smith to score; he's probably seen that situation plenty of times.

Just before that Michael Smith chance I was going to say that Peterborough are looking comfortable in possession and willing to take their time to look for an opening rather than force anything.

Of course the danger with that is that if you overplay in the wrong areas you could be in trouble.

Smith has been in excellent form of late for the Owls, with four goals in his past two.

He'll know he should have done better with that chance.

    BIG chance for the Owls!

Michael Smith gets in behind the home defence after catching Ollie Norburn in possession just inside his own half.

The striker advances on goal but his low shot is too close to keeper Will Norris, who gets down well to deny him.

Bright opening from the home side.

Kwame Poku drives forward with real intent down the Posh right but his low cross is cut out.

  9. There's more...published at 20:04 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Queen's Park 0-1 Partick (3-5 agg)

It's not just in England where the play-offs are under way.

There's second-leg action from north of the border tonight.

Partick Thistle claimed a 4-3 win over Queen's Park in an engrossing first tie on Tuesday night and Brian Graham's early strike tonight has them in total control against Owen Coyle's men.

The winner will go through to play Ayr for a place in the final and possible promotion to the Premiership.

If you'd like to watch that then you can do so by clicking here.

There's also the second leg of the League One play-off semi-final between Clyde and East Fife.

The Bully Wee (what a tremendous nickname that is), who are looking to hold on to their third-tier status, were 1-0 up from the first leg but the League Two side have the lead tonight to level things on aggregate.

    Peterborough 0-0 Sheff Wed

    Brian Laws
Ex-Sheff Wed manager on BBC Radio Sheffield

It's a very, very difficult one to call. Peterborough have that euphoria and excitement of jumping into the play-offs at the last moment, Sheffield Wednesday are hitting the momentum of winning again.

Missing out on an automatic spot has given Wednesday games to play to get that mentality right. They've been spot on, particularly in the past few.

The fans have started to reunite despite the disappointment of not getting out of the league automatically. They're a much stronger unit and if they can get a goal, they have the credentials to shut Peterborough out.

Darren Ferguson has set his stall out with his team: he's going to attack and go for goals.

He's not being pragmatic, although that may change as the game goes on. He wants the advantage in this first leg.

The feeling that Sheffield Wednesday have ‘blown’ automatic promotion persists with some supporters, and it can seem at times that those at the club are weighed down by the expectations placed on them.

Owls manager Darren Moore has done his best to alter that public perception. However the end to the season, after the March mini-meltdown that may well have cost them the title, has been solid and encouraging.

They’ll be favourites to win the play-offs. They should be after a tally of 96 points – 11 more than last year and 19 more than Peterborough this – but you still get the sense that they need to prove that they are a good team to themselves as much as the Owls supporters.

Sheffield Wednesday might have finished three places and 19 points above Peterborough in the table but in the two regular season meetings between the teams it was honours even.

Grant McCann's Posh consigned the Owls to their first loss of the season with a 2-0 win at London Road back in August before Wednesday claimed a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture in March.

Overall, the two teams have met 21 times previously, with the Owls winning 10, Posh seven and four draws.

Peterborough gaffer Darren Ferguson goes with the same XI which started the 2-0 win at Barnsley on Sunday.

Sheffield Wednesday bring defender Michael Ihiekwe back into the XI after he was rested for the win over Derby and forward Josh Windass makes his first start since March after recovering from injury.

Peterborough XI: Norris, Burrows, Edwards, Kent, Ward, Kyprainou, Norburn, Taylor, Mason-Clark, Poku, Clarke-Harris.

Subs: Blackmore, Butler, Knight, Jones, Thompson, Randall, Tshimanga.

Sheffield Wednesday XI: Dawson, Palmer, Iorfa, Flint, Ihiekwe, Johnson, Paterson, Vaulks, Bannan, Windass, Smith.

Subs: Stockdale, Hunt, James, Adeniran, Bakinson, Dele-Bashiru, Gregory.

It feels kind of right that our first play-off match-up sees a team that finished two points short of automatic promotion visit a side who confirmed their participation in the end of season showdown with a last-day win.

In any other season Sheffield Wednesday's 96 points would have been enough to secure a top-two finish in League One but, crucially, not this year.

The Owls went on a club record 23-game unbeaten run through until February but a 4-2 loss at Barnsley knocked the wheels off their charge and, although they recovered to win their final four matches, the damage was done.

Peterborough have endured a much more topsy-turvy campaign.

They won four of their first five but then lost the next four straight as Grant McCann struggled to get any consistency from his men.

The Northern Irishman was sacked in January and Darren Ferguson returned for his FOURTH stint as boss.

There's certainly been some bumps along the way but their final-day 2-0 win at Oakwell, combined with the Owls beating Derby 1-0, was enough to see them pinch sixth spot.

In a way, that's all immaterial now of course. Whoever has the better of these next two matches will be going to Wembley.

For three of the dozen the joy of promotion underneath the Wembley arch awaits.

For the other nine it'll be back to the drawing board to try again next season.
