  1. Carlisle carnage

Carlisle 1-1 Stockport (5-4 on pens)

    Carlisle

That's as far as we go here today.

Congratulations to Carlisle who fought back from a goal down to eventually beat Stockport County on penalties.

You can read Matt Newsum's report of the game here.

We'll be back tomorrow for the final EFL play-off final and the last EFL game of this epic season.

Hope you can join us then and thanks for your company today.

Enjoy the rest of your Bank Holiday weekend.

  2. Two down, one to go...

Barnsley v Sheff Wed (15:00 BST)

So, Championship and League Two done.

League One now takes centre stage tomorrow.

Barnsley face Sheffield Wednesday in an all-South Yorkshire affair at the national stadium.

If it's anything like the two finals so far this weekend get ready to be in it for the long haul!

  3. Post update

Carlisle 1-1 Stockport (5-4 on pens)

Just remembered when Jack Grealish managed to cut his eyebrow open lifting the Championship play-off final trophy with Aston Villa a few years back.

Quite a sharp trophy as they go you have to say.

  4. CHAMPAGNE MOMENT

Carlisle 1-1 Stockport (5-4 on pens)

Carlisle captain Paul Huntington lifts the League Two play-off final trophy.

The Cumbrians are back in League One after nine seasons!

    Carlisle lift the trophy
  5. So close yet so far for Stockport

Carlisle 1-1 Stockport (5-4 on pens)

    Liam Hogan

former Stockport defender on BBC Radio Manchester

It’s a massive blow. If you got back to open play, the Akil Wright moment, we could have sealed the win in normal time.

When the dust settles there will be a realisation of what they’ve achieved this season. Playing an event like the League Two final is a massive achievement in itself.

Within the club there’s a big foundation and this could be a stepping stone to keep progressing.

There’s a squad there that they can build but it will be a strong league next season with the likes of Wrexham and Notts County coming up.

To be so close, going back into the dressing room having lost will be a massive disappointment.

  6. Promotion 'means the world'

Carlisle 1-1 Stockport (5-4 on pens)

Carlisle midfielder Taylor Charters tells Sky Sports:

"I can't put it into words. It means the world.

"I tried to block everything out.

"I remember coming to watch the team as a kid and we have had years of disappointment so it's great to have some joy."

    Carlisle fans celebrate
  7. Post update

Carlisle 1-1 Stockport (5-4 on pens)

    Chris Lumsdon

Former Carlisle midfielder on BBC Radio Cumbria

    Carlisle turned-up today.

They turned-up, with a lot of courage and they just kept going.

A fantastic performance from them against a really tough opponent in Stockport.

  8. Carlisle promoted to League One

Result: Carlisle 1-1 Stockport (5-4 on pens)

    Ryan Rydel

You have to feel for Ryan Rydel.

He had a fine game for Stockport today but his penalty was too close to Tomas Holy.

As for Carlisle? Five excellent penalties.

  9. 'First promotion in 17 years'

Carlisle 1-1 Stockport (5-4 on pens)

    James Phillips

For the first time in 17 years Carlisle have WON promotion!

And in the most dramatic fashion.

Inject it into your veins Carlisle fans.

  10. BreakingCARLISLE PROMOTED TO LEAGUE ONE

Carlisle 1-1 Stockport (5-4 on pens)

    Carlisle promoted

Taylor Charters slots his penalty in and Carlisle United will play in League One next season!

This is their first promotion since 2006.

    The manager then? Paul Simpson.

The hometown boy came back last season to save them from relegation to non-league and this season he has taken them up.

    Tremendous.

  11. GOAL: Carlisle 5-4 Stockport

Taylor Charters sends Carlisle into League One!

He places the ball in to cue wild celebrations.

Carlisle United celebrate winning League Two play-off final
  12. GOAL: Carlisle 4-4 Stockport

    Will Collar

Easy as you like from Will Collar, low into the net, to keep Stockport in it.

But if Taylor Charters scores, Carlisle are into League One...

  13. GOAL: Carlisle 4-3 Stockport

    Owen Moxon

Four out of four for Carlisle. Owen Moxon goes high again and Tomas Holy goes the wrong way.

  14. GOAL: Carlisle 3-3 Stockport

    Jack Stretton

Fantastic penalty. Jack Stretton picks out the top corner.

  15. GOAL: Carlisle 3-2 Stockport

    Ryan Edmondson

Calm as you like. Ryan Edmondson takes a couple of steps and strokes the ball in. There was no power in it but Ben Hinchliffe dived the wrong way.

  16. GOAL: Carlisle 2-2 Stockport

    Myles Hippolyte

Pressure penalty and Myles Hippolyte keeps his cool as he slots in to bring Stockport level.
