    Republic of Ireland 3-2 Zambia

The full-time whistle sounds in Dublin and the Republic of Ireland have warmed up for next month's World Cup with a 3-2 victory over Zambia.

It didn't go to script in the first half as they went in 1-0 down at the break to a bizarre own goal from goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan.

A second half double from substitute Amber Brace and a first international goal for Claire O'Riordan gave Vera Pauw's side the win.

Four minutes of injury time have been added in Dublin.

Zambia are still pushing for an equaliser and Ochumba Oseke Lunbanji is just off target with an audacious long-range effort.

Five minutes remaining in Dublin and the supporters in the Tallaght Stadium are giving the home side a rousing send-off here for the World Cup.

Zambia have given them a good test tonight and are still looking dangerous in the closing stages.

  4. goal

    Republic of Ireland 3-2 Zambia

Reachael Kundananji pulls a goal back for Zambia!

She turned smartly in the box and got away from her marker before finishing low at the near post past Courtney Brosnan.

That brings it back to 3-2 - will the Republic hold on?

  5. Postpublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 3-1 Zambia

The Republic might have got a bit lucky there as Claire O'Riordan looked like she blocked an effort with her hand - but play was waved on.

  6. goal

GOALpublished at 21:02 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 3-1 Zambia

Amber Barrett grabs her second to put Ireland 3-1 up!

And what a lovely goal it was too.

A corner wasn't cleared properly and as it dropped to the striker she lofted a beautiful little lob over the keeper and into the net. A real touch of quality from Barrett.

That's a bit more like it from Vera Pauw's side.

  7. goal

GOALpublished at 20:54 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 2-1 Zambia

The hosts are in front and it's Claire O'Riordan with an emphatic header at the back post!

Megan Connolly delivered an inviting inswinging free-kick and O'Riordan was allowed far too much space to bury a header for her first senior international goal.

    Nice moment for O'Riordan.

  8. Postpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 1-1 Zambia

It's been all the Republic so far in this second half.

They'll have been delighted to draw level with that Barrett penalty and they look the most likely to get the next goal.

  9. goal

GOALpublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 1-1 Zambia

A beautifully-placed penalty by Amber Barrett brings the Republic level.

She had only just come on at half-time and she tucked the ball into the bottom corner with her right foot.

    A fine spot-kick.

  10. PENALTYpublished at 20:38 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 0-1 Zambia

    The Republic have a penalty!

It was Larkin with the shot and it was closed down by the arm of Katongo.

  11. Ireland make five subspublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 0-1 Zambia

Republic of Ireland manager Vera Pauw has made five changes at half time, with Erin McLaughlin coming on for her debut along with Chloe Mustaki, Ciara Grant, Harriet Scott and Amber Barrett.

Niamh Fahey, Izzy Atkinson, Ruesha Littlejohn, Leanne Kiernan and Saoirse Noonan are the five who have gone off.

Well, that's not going as the home support would have hoped at half-time.

Zambia, led by the impressive Barbra Banda, are well worth their lead but there was plenty of Irish pressure at the end of the half to keep spirits high for the vocal Tallaght crowd.

Remember, this game is all about learning ahead of the World Cup and giving players minutes before the final squad selection on Thursday.

  13. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:21 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 0-1 Zambia

The result will not matter too much in the general scheme of things, of course, but that is not a half of football that the Republic of Ireland will remember for too long.

They have had plenty of the ball but, apart from a few chances in the closing stages of the half, they have struggled to create many clear-cut opportunities.

Zambia captain Barbra Banda has been a constant threat and it was her cross that led to home goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan turning the ball into her own net for the only goal of the game so far.

Not sure how Reachea Kundananji managed to break through so many tackles there, but she did,and got a shot away but it was saved by Courtney Brosnan.

  15. Postpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    That's better from Ireland.

A strong driving run down the left from Izzy Atkinson, who plays in , Leanne Kiernan and she crosses for Abbie Larkin but her effort is saved.

A minute later Louise Quinn finds space in the box but heads over from close range when she will no doubt feel she should have hit the target.

A good spell for the hosts.

  16. All a bit flat on the home frontpublished at 20:08 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 0-1 Zambia

It's all been a bit flat in an attacking sense so far for the Republic of Ireland.

They have enjoyed plenty of deep possession but as they have advanced their creativity has let them down.

These games on the eve of a big tournament are always funny ones for players, but manager Vera Pauw will no doubt have been hoping for better than this.

  17. Own goal agreementpublished at 20:00 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 0-1 Zambia

We felt it was a Courtney Brosnan own goal and it seems the Republic's own social media team have called it the same way.

GOALpublished at 19:50 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 0-1 Zambia

    Well, well, well.

This wasn't in the script as Zambia take the lead.

We'd noted how dangerous visiting captaing Barbra Banda has been and it was her cross that was deflected towards the Republic goal, hit the post and then seemed to go in off home keeper Courtney Brosnan.

A scrappy goal and it only just crossed the line but Zambia will not care about that!

  19. Banda setting high Barpublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Zambia

The Republic of Ireland are enjoying a long spell of decent possession but have failed to create any real clear-cut chances since that O'Riordan double attempt.

Zambia captain Barbra Banda has given more than one warning of the threat she poses up front with her strength and pace.

  20. Postpublished at 19:39 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Zambia

It hasn't been all one-way traffic in these opening six minutes as Barbra Banda tries her luck for the visitors with a well-hit angled drive but can only find the side-netting.

Something of a warning, though, for the hosts.
