A few nerves from the Jamaica back four.

You don't want to give any sort of space to Marta.

    PICK THAT ONE OUT.

You could not place the ball in the net with your hand, better than Marta Cox placed that free kick with her right foot from 30 yards.

The Panama bench emptied as every single player celebrated that goal.

There is a pocket of Panamanian fans on the centre line, directly opposite my seat, who were making a din before and are going even crazier now.

"There will be changes to starting XI tomorrow," Herve Renard said at his press conference yesterday. He was not kidding.

Making five changes, including leaving out your captain and your all-time top scorer, is a big move given France are not guaranteed progression and likely need a win to finish top of the group.

France should still have too much for Panama - but there will be huge questions if they don't make a fast start here.

When you think of the off pitch challenges, the fact that Jamaica can qualify. They have to defend well.

This is a group that are united and it is realistic to think they have a very good chance of going through.

The 37-year-old will make her 23rd appearance in the finals today, and she has already confirmed this will be her final World Cup.

She has scored a record 17 goals in the tournament and is bidding to become the first player to score in six World Cups.

France did the hard work in beating Brazil in Brisbane, however their failure to defeat Jamaica means they also need at least a point to guarantee progression tonight.

That looks very likely against a Panama side without a point or goal from two games - but manager Herve Renard is warning everyone to take nothing for granted.

"When you're part of a World Cup, the fans want to see their team play," he said yesterday. "We know it is going to be a tough game, not a friendly.

"It is a game which will stay forever in their memory, so we have to stay focused. They want to win for their pride, so we have to be very strong.

"We see Panama were strong against Jamaica, it proves their quality, it is for us to be focused on the game and concentrate on our objective which remains the same. The players are motivated to finish this group stage first."

  18. Future bright for Panamapublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 2 August 2023

    Panama v France (11:00 BST)

    Emma Smith
BBC Sport at Sydney Football Stadium

This has been a tough tournament for Panama, who were outclassed by Brazil before failing to lay a glove on Jamaica to exit their first Women's World Cup after two games.

There is hope for the future though. Unlike several other nations at this tournament, this Panama team seems to have stability.

The women have equal pay and conditions to the men's team - and they also have youth on their side. Of the 23-woman squad, 11 players are aged 23 or under.

"We are here to plant a seed, to ensure Panama has a future," manager Ignacio Quintana said yesterday.

"I can see this in our squad, we are thinking about the future. This is a team which will have two or three tournaments. We will have players in four years' time who will have experience, and not be surprised."

    Jamaica v Brazil (11:00 BST)

    RBF

Realistically, Brazil have to win this game to get out of Group F but Jamaica showed with their 0-0 draw with France that they are very strong defensively.

The Reggae Girlz will also have their captain and talisman, Khadija Bunny Shaw, back from suspension to add more bite to their attack.

Brazil did not show as much attacking flair against France as they did against Panama but I am expecting them to drive forward again here.

It is going to be an exciting game, but I just have a feeling Jamaica will frustrate them and get the draw they need to progress.

    Brown-Finnis' prediction: 1-1
