Better from America. Instead of going direct - it's wet tonight so everything bounces straight to the keeper - they go out wide and keep the ball.

They need to do that, and be more clever. They can't go over the top against this very tall Sweden defence.

That's nice, real nice from the USA. Alex Morgan and Trinity Rodman link up in the right channel, the ball comes across and is not dealt with and Andi Sullivan drags her shot wide from the edge of the area.

Really nice from Sweden, they're calm and waiting for opportunities. They're getting down the wide areas and putting in crosses.

We'll see how the USA respond because it can't be an end-to-end match, they'll get punished. Sweden are so good at that.

Sweden controlling the play and the tempo so far with the USA looking razor sharp on the counter. The template has been set for a captivating clash.

Alex Morgan bustles through a challenge and gets to the fringe of the Swedish box but she can't get a shot away. You can sense the tension in the air from thousands of miles away.

There are a fair few empty green seats around Melby Recs - which, given the stature of game tonight and the large crowds at this competition, is surprising.

Again, I suspect this comes down to a lot of USA fans not expecting their team to be playing here tonight, when the tournament began.

It looks like Julie Ertz is playing at the back for the States and not in midfield. Sweden start brightly with Kosovare Asllani hanging up a cross but it comes to nothing.

There's a huge history between these two teams. It's a huge opportunity for Sweden now to take on a side who have not looked themselves. The confidence will be high. This is the opportunity to beat this USA team.

Excluding penalty shootouts, the last time the US lost a game in the knockout stage was in the semi-finals in 2007 against Brazil.

That's the size of the task facing Sweden today, no matter how shaky the States may have looked in the group stage.

Anthems time, belted out with typical gusto by both sides. The Star Spangled Banner was played at lightning tempo. America in a rush...

Lee: For all their success, being knocked out today may do the USA a favour long-term in the women's international game. Women's football is developing lightning quick all over the globe, and a US side embarrassed at a tournament they made their own is far more likely to lead to deeper soul searching and a stronger rebuild, then a fortunate yet fruitless run to the latter stages here which papers over the cracks.

USA have won their last eight knockout stage games played against European teams in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, scoring multiple goals in each of those games and never conceding more than one goal. As England well know.

Their last defeat against a team from Europe in the knockout stage was in the semi-final in 2003 against Germany (0-3).

Canada legend Christine Sinclair played her final World Cup game here as her country were beaten by Australia. Brazil icon Marta bowed out from the world stage following their draw with Jamaica.

USA are trying to win their third World Cup. They're trying to meet that very high bar.

We could today see a team that crumbles under pressure. Or we could see a siege mentality.
