  1. Kettlewell backs Bair attackpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

    Dundee v Motherwell (15:00)

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell tells Sportsound that striker signing Theo Bair "comes in on a significantly smaller contract than he was on at St Johnstone, so he adds real value".

"We think, given time and opportunity, he can grow into being a Premiership striker. He's not had a great deal of football, or football sessions, but we're short at the front end of the park.

"It might not be down to one player to deliver 29 goals. Part of the start is to share the goals around the club."

    Sky Sports

Celtic's player of the match David Turnbull tells Sky Sports: "It was great to be back out there, thoroughly enjoyed it.

"I'm delighted for myself and the team. Game time has been hard to come by, so it's been good to be back in there and repay the faith the manager has shown in me."

Fellow Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley adds to that by saying his team-mate, who scored twice, is "too good not to play football".

  4. Spartans make historypublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

    Scottish League 2

The Spartans make history as the Lowland League champions play their first-ever game in the SPFL.

The Edinburgh side started their Viaplay Cup campaign with a famous win over Dundee United and will be confident as they entertain a Clyde side who had a dismal group stage to follow their relegation last season.

Peterhead, who finished below Clyde in League 1, are away to East Fife. The Fifers had a heartening Viaplay Cup campaign, as did Forfar Athletic.

Annan Athletic begin their first-ever season in League 1 away to a Falkirk side who will again be among the title favourites.

Meanwhile, League 2 champions Stirling Albion will look to build on that Viaplay Cup thumping of top-flight St Johnstone at home to Edinburgh City.

  6. Who can challenge Tangerines?published at 14:38 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

    Scottish Championship

Dundee United started their attempt to make a quick return to the top flight in devastating fashion last night with a 4-0 win away to Arbroath, but who will today suggest they could be their title challengers?

League 1 champions Dunfermline Athletic host Airdrieonians, who were runners-up behind them but started topped their Viaplay Cup group with four straight wins.

The other three fixtures all feature match-ups between sides who will have genuine promotion hopes of their own. It's going to be some league again.

    Dundee v Motherwell (15:00)

Midfielder Scott Tiffoney drops to the bench, alongside Mexican forward Diego Pineda and Josh Mulligan. Amadou Bakayoko, Lyall Cameron and Luke McCowan are in from the start.

Stuart Kettlewell welcomes back captain Liam Kelly back after the goalkeeper was rested in the League Cup victory over East Fife. Stephen O'Donnell comes into the five-man defence.

  9. Two Saints debutants; Lowry on Hearts benchpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

St Johnstone v Heart of Midlothian (15:00)

St Johnstone, unsurprisingly, make a plethora of changes after their League Cup campaign ended in ignominy.

Ross Sinclair, Luke Jephcott, Alex Ferguson, Max Kucheriavyi, Liam Parker and James Brown, who was an injury doubt, all drop out of the starting XI from their 4-0 home defeat to Stirling Albion.

In come Dimitar Mitov, Graham Carey, Ryan McGowan and Drey Wright, with midweek signings Oludare Olufunwa and Sam McClelland also making their debuts from the start.

Wales midfielder Matt Smith, announced by the Saints this morning on a two-year deal from MK Dons, starts on the bench.

For Hearts, there's just one change from the side that started their last pre-season friendly against Leeds United as Cammy Devlin comes into midfield from the start for Jorge Grant.

Yesterday's loan signing from Rangers, 20-year-old midfielder Alex Lowry, makes the bench for the visitors.

Job done for Brendan Rodgers on his first game back.

Two goals for David Turnbull, one each for Kyogo and Matt O'Riley.

Ross County started really well but found themselves 3-0 down before Jordan White pulled one back with a good header.

And that Brown goal means they ended up winning the second half 2-1, something which will please Malky Mackay.
