Meanwhile, US reports have linked Inter Miami with another former Barcelona player - 36-year-old Uruguay striker Luis Suarez, who is currently playing for Brazil side Gremio.

The ex-Liverpool forward played alongside Messi, Busquets and Alba during six seasons at the Nou Camp between 2014 and 2020.

Mas said on Tuesday: "There's been a lot of talk about Luis Suarez coming. We haven't held direct talks with Gremio or with Suarez.

"I don't know how Luis Suarez can leave Gremio. But if he does, we are free to talk to Luis and bring him to Inter Miami. That possibility would be there."

Spain defender Jordi Alba will join former Barcelona team-mates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets at Inter Miami, said club president Jorge Mas.

Mas said the 34-year-old full-back has signed a contract, external and should be available to face Atlanta on Tuesday.

Alba, who left Barcelona in the summer when his contract expired, spent more than 10 years with the Spanish giants, scoring 27 goals in 459 matches.

He helped them win six La Liga titles and the Champions League in 2015.

Argentina World Cup winner Messi, 36, and Alba's fellow Spain international Busquets, 35, have already made the switch to the United States' Major League Soccer.

Messi and Busquets, who have signed deals until 2025, were presented to a cheering crowd of around 20,000 Inter Miami fans at the club's DRV PNK Stadium on Sunday, flanked by co-owner and ex-England captain David Beckham.

Seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi trained with his Miami team-mates for the first time on Tuesday and is expected to make his debut on Friday in a Leagues Cup game against Cruz Azul, of Mexico City.

We heard from some of the Lionesses today at their hotel in Brisbane, including Lucy Bronze, who spoke powerfully about the players' decision to pause discussions on bonus payments with the FA until after the Women's World Cup.

She said the squad feels "empowered" to improve standards in the women's game.

"It's important to share our voices, strive to make differences," said Bronze.

"Although we're just players, we want women's football to be better for ourselves and in the future.

"The World Cup gives us the big stage, it's when people want to listen to us, when things really matter, and [it's] why so many teams are speaking about it. It's the only moment they sometimes get this stage.

"We are European champions - we've changed the game massively in England. We want things to fall in line with what we've done on the pitch."

Kerr, Australia's all-time top scorer and two-time PFA Player of the Year with Chelsea, is the poster girl for this tournament.

The 29-year-old striker is a winner of three consecutive domestic doubles with the Blues. The pressure is on to bring that success to her country.

Amdouni scored 12 goals in the Swiss Super League last season and top scored in the Uefa Conference League with seven.

“I’m very happy to be here and I’m excited to start,” he said.

“The last two months were very important to me; I spoke to the coach, and he really wanted me. Also, I really wanted to work with him, for me that’s the most important. For my career, to choose a good club, where the coach wants you is important to me.

“I know the Premier League is best league in the world. It’s not easy for sure but I am confident with the coach, and the staff, I can do good things here.”

Will Amdouni help keep Burnley up? Hit the thumbs.

Does anyone in the Norway team play the piano?

Boss Hege Riise along with players Maren Mjelde and Caroline Graham Hansen have just done a news conference in a room at Eden Park with a piano in it.

The trio were running a few minutes late so a quick-thinking member of Norway's media team offered around 50 waiting media chocolate.

That's what you call good PR.

  10. Goncalo Ramospublished at 09:08 British Summer Time 19 July 2023

    And finally, the wildcard entry.

Goncalo Ramos has been linked in the past but less so recently.

He scored a hat-trick for Portugal in a 6-1 win over Switzerland at the World Cup and netted 19 league goals for Benfica last season.

Would the 22-year-old be a good signing?

  11. Rasmus Hojlundpublished at 09:00 British Summer Time 19 July 2023

Rasmus Hojlund is being most heavily linked right now.

The 20-year-old Dane is very highly rated at Atalanta after scoring nine goals in 32 games in Serie A last season. There is a player for Erik ten Hag to mould, for sure.

But with so little comparable experience, would he be a good signing this summer?

  12. Randal Kolo Muanipublished at 08:52 British Summer Time 19 July 2023

Randal Kolo Muani has made a name for himself at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The France striker scored 15 goals and registered 11 assists in the Bundesliga last season. He is tall and quick and can play out wide.

Does that make the 24-year-old an attractive option? Hit the thumbs.

  13. Victor Osimhenpublished at 08:45 British Summer Time 19 July 2023

Another player more heavily linked a few months ago, with talk having cooled, is Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian’s goals helped fire Napoli to the Serie A title last season and plenty of clubs are interested.

Would you like to see him at Old Trafford?

First up, we have Harry Kane,

He’s been linked with a move to Bayern Munich this summer and Tottenham don’t want to sell him, particularly to a Premier League rival. That has meant the trail has gone cold on this one, but he’s guaranteed goals, isn’t he?

Is Kane the man for Man Utd in an ideal world? Hit the thumbs.

  16. United will not overpay for Hojlundpublished at 08:29 British Summer Time 19 July 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Onana will be United's second signing of the summer, after the arrival of midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea for an initial £55m, and attention now turns to their third recruitment priority, a central striker.

United received no encouragement during initial discussions around signing Tottenham's Harry Kane and Atalanta's Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund is high on their list of alternatives.

Hojlund joined Atalanta in August 2022 and scored 10 goals in 34 appearances last season. He made his international debut in September 2022 and has six goals in six games all in qualifying for Euro 2024.

However, while personal terms are not expected to be a problem in completing a deal, there has been no agreement with the Serie A club over a fee. Atalanta are understood to want 70m euros (£60.2m) for the 20-year-old.

Having committed more than £100m on their two signings so far, and having been fined by Uefa for breaking Financial Fair Play rules last week, United want to stick to their budget.

It means other options, including Eintracht Frankfurt's highly-rated France striker Randal Kolo Muani, 24, are coming into play.

Kolo Muani has attracted the interest of Paris St-Germain amid ongoing uncertainty over the future of Kylian Mbappe whilst Bayern Munich may turn to the 24-year-old if they also fail in their attempt to lure Kane to Germany.

  17. Red Devils find their De Gea replacementpublished at 08:22 British Summer Time 19 July 2023

David de GeaImage source, Getty Images

De Gea was United's first-choice keeper for the past 12 years, making 545 appearances after joining the club under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Spaniard's 190 clean sheets are a club record for a goalkeeper.

Onana spent seven and a half years at Ajax before moving to Inter in July 2022 on a free transfer.

He kept eight clean sheets in 24 Serie A games as Inter finished third and no team scored past him in 13 of their matches in the Champions League last season - the most of any goalkeeper in the competition.

He played against Manchester City in the Champions League final in June as Inter lost 1-0.

The keeper retired from international football in December after falling out with Cameroon boss Rigobert Song at the World Cup.

  18. Man Utd agree Onana dealpublished at 08:17 British Summer Time 19 July 2023

    Andre OnanaImage source, Getty Images

Manchester United have agreed a £47.2m (55m euros) deal for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The Old Trafford club will pay £43.8m up front for the Cameroon player, with an additional £3.4m in add-ons.

United hope he will be able to join them on their upcoming tour of the United States - although they have to arrange a visa for the 27-year-old.

Manager Erik ten Hag moved for the keeper at the end of the season after previously working with him at Ajax.

He will join on a five-year contract, with the option for a sixth.

Ten Hag feels Onana can be a significant addition to United's squad and his pursuit of a new goalkeeper prompted David de Gea to turn down a new contract offer.
