We'd have to see it again to see if it's offside.

It was all about Ellis Simms - he didn't score it, but he did everything else.

He was really strong, really aggressive - it may also have hit Yasin Ayari's hand but the goal stands.

When you can't be good, be lucky.

Ellis Simms lets go with an absolutely rasping shot after coming in from the left-hand edge of the penalty area.

His fierce effort smashes back off the bar and hits Yasin Ayari to bounce into the net.

That's the 19-year-old Brighton loanee's first for the club.

Huddersfield are a difficult side to play against, Neil Warnock sides.

I say Neil Warnock sides as he's only been out of the door for a few days.

They're a big side, they get their men back and more often than not they get the first contact on crosses.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto looks lively on the right-hand side for Coventry.

The Japanese wins an attacking free-kick for his side as Jaheim Headley bodychecks him out on the touchline.

The Town defence stand up well to the set-piece delivery and the danger is cleared.

Sean from Smethwick: Darren Moore is a no nonsense guy, he will do Huddersfield some good and can get the best out of players. Still gutted the way he was treated at West Bromwich Albion.

Moore was sacked by the Baggies when they were third in the Championship table back in March 2019.

    Opening up now.

Coventry win another corner and Kyle McFadzean's effort is well blocked.

The away side launch a counter straight down the other end and Liam Kelly stands up well to get in the way of Josh Koroma's effort.

Just a little flat at the moment in this match between the past two teams to lose in the Championship play-off final.

Neither side have had a real shot of any kind of note yet.

They've got to be careful, Huddersfield, that they don't convert to a back five all of the time.

They've got to spend more time up the field.

Coventry pile on a bit of pressure as they force a few corners in quick succession.

However, Yasin Ayari eventually drags a speculative 25-yarder well wide.

This is a surprisingly (to my mind at least) underplayed fixture.

These pair have only met 21 times over the years and didn't meet at all between January 1978 and December 2020.

Huddersfield hold the edge in terms of wins, with nine to the Sky Blues' seven, although Coventry emphatically came out on top the last time the pair met as they claimed a 4-0 win at the John Smith's Stadium back in March.

However, none of their three goalscorers that day - Viktor Gyokeres, Gustavo Hamer and Tyler Walker - are still at the club.

Huddersfield have become the first Championship team to replace their boss, with Darren Moore coming in for Neil Warnock.

Terriers fans, and indeed non-Terriers fans, we'd like to know what you make of that decision?

Is that the last we'll see of Warnock in the dugout? He's suggested he's not retiring and is open to continuing his record-breaking career.

With a few second-tier sides in pretty rough form, who do you think will be next to make a change in the managerial department?

We'd love to hear from you.

Let's have a quick recap of what went down in the EFL over the weekend shall we?

    • Leicester stayed top of the table with a 1-0 win over Bristol City, while Ipswich moved up to second by edging a 4-3 goalfest over Blackburn.
    • Plymouth smashed Norwich 6-2 and Swansea beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 to leave the Owls as the only team in the league not to win yet this season.
    • Portsmouth stayed top of the pile in League One with a 2-1 win over Lincoln and Cheltenham broke the Football League record for most games without scoring at the start of the campaign, as they failed to hit the back of the net for the ninth straight time in a 3-0 home reverse by Stevenage.
    • Troy Deeney's hat-trick for Forest Green was in vain as they lost 4-3 at League Two leaders Notts County and Wrexham's good run came to a shuddering halt as they were thumped 5-0 at Stockport.
  15. Moore up against ex-Huddersfield boss Robinspublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 25 September 2023

    Coventry v Huddersfield (20:00 BST)

It'll be interesting to see if Coventry City boss Mark Robins has any special wise words for new Terriers manager Darren Moore at kick-off time tonight.

It is now more than 10 years since Robins held that same position himself, having left Coventry to join Huddersfield in February 2013.

He was sacked 18 months later, just one game into a new season - and it was the best part of three years later before he found his way, via Scunthorpe, back to Coventry.

But the last six and a half years have helped transform Robins' reputation from being respected former player, with a famous late FA Cup winner on his CV, to Sky Blues legend.

Admittedly, it did not quite go to plan when Coventry cruelly lost the Championship play-off final to Luton on penalties in May. Nor has it gone as smoothly as he would have hoped this season. Not enough goals from their two expensive new acquisitons Ellis Simms and Haji Wright. Too many draws. And, despite boasting the second tier's joint top scorer in Matt Godden, they start the evening a point below the Terriers in the table.

Robins, as good and decent a bloke as there is in the league, is not short of popular support and is well liked by all neutrals. Trouble is, on that score, he might just have met his match tonight in the equally universally liked 'Big Dave' Moore.

Injury-hit Coventry make four changes from the team that lost 3-2 at Cardiff last time out. Ellis Simms comes in up front for record signing Haji Wright.

New Huddersfield boss Darren Moore also makes four changes from Neil Warnock's last selection as Town boss. Skipper Jonathan Hogg is among those to return to the team.

Coventry City XI: Wilson; Thomas, McFadzean, Binks, Sakamoto, Eccles, Kelly, Dasilva, Ayari, Godden, Simms.

Subs: Collins, Kitching, Latibeaudiere, Bidwell, Wright, Allen, Rus, Stretton, Obikwu.

Huddersfield XI: Nicholls, Pearson, Helik, Nakayama, Jackson, Wiles, Hogg, Rudoni, Headley, Burgzorg, Koroma.

Subs: Maxwell, Edmonds-Green, Lees, Edwards, Thomas, Diarra, Jones, Harratt, Hudlin.

Another new era starts for Huddersfield this evening.

Veteran boss Neil Warnock is out and former Sheffield Wednesday gaffer Darren Moore is in.

Moore is the Terriers' fourth managerial appointment since July 2022.

In contrast, Coventry boss Mark Robins has been in charge of the Sky Blues for over six and a half years.

After a run of five games without a win the home side will be in no mood to roll out the red carpet for tonight's visitors and their new man at the helm.
