    Sheff Wed 0-3 Sunderland

Dan Ballard peels away to the far post to meet Alex Pritchard's deep corner but nods his angled header narrowly past the angle of post and bar.

His team-mates wanted it back in the middle and he has to apologise for greedily trying to double his tally from an almost impossible angle.

    Three added minutes here.

What do you say if you're the Wednesday manager at half-time?

    Where do you even start?

Half-time is inching closer but it's Sunderland who seem by far the likelier to score the next goal, and the one after that...

Sunderland fans are getting the 'ole's out for every pass.

Wednesday fans are flooding out in their droves. They can't take any more baiting.

Xisco Munoz wears his heart on his sleeve, he apologised, genuinely, to the Owls fans after last Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Swansea, but he's going to struggle to find the right words after this game unless something changes dramatically.

Devis Vasquez pats down a long-range pot-shot as the visitors seek a fourth. Relentless.

Gemma: I am a Sheffield Wednesday fan and I always will be, but they need to do something with the club. We can't keep losing games. Something needs to give now, we were a very good side last season, now we are at the bottom of the Championship.

  5. CLOSE!published at 34 mins

Mason Burstow might have made it four. Alex Pritchard's low pull-back from the left finds him in the box but he almost overswings at the ball and bobbles his shot into a defender and behind for a corner, which is well dealt with by keeper Devis Vasquez.

'Sacked in the morning' sing the Sunderland fans to Xisco Munoz.

Football fans can be cruel, eh?

    They are also sometimes right.

Fans are actually going in their droves. They are walking out after 30 minutes of a game.

It's a disaster of an opening 30 minutes for Sheffield Wednesday and every mistake is costly.

    Xisco will be absolutely distraught.

    Jack Clarke (pen)

Jack Clarke scores a penalty for SunderlandImage source, Rex Features

Jack Clarke sends Devis Vasquez the wrong way from the spot, tucking his effort low to the right, and that might be game over.

Six in five games for Clarke and seven for the season.

A smattering of boos from the home fans.

Absolutely no danger of the referee not giving a penalty for that.

  10. PENALTY TO SUNDERLANDpublished at 30 mins

    Sheff Wed 0-2 Sunderland

Mason Burstow spins as he collects a pass on the edge of the area and Bambo Diaby is the wrong side, hauls him down a little clumsily and it's a penalty. No complaints.

Guess who is going to take it...

George Byers just a fraction of a second off in a few challenges and I suspect he might become acquainted with the referee if he does it another couple of times.

He has a little niibble at Jobe Bellingham as the teenager spins away in midfield before slightly overrunning it.

Tough night to come into the team and try to lead them for Byers. Barry Bannan is so often the heartbeat of this team.

You can see why Owls fans get frustrated. The hosts win a free-kick in their own half but instead of trying to get it forward they pass it back to the keeper and five slightly dicey passes and some quick pressing from Sunderland later and they concede possession.

Brave to try it at the best of times, let alone when the chips are down.

Anthony Musaba bends an effort from the resultant corner narrowly over the crossbar from just outside the box.

Green shoots of recovery from Wednesday? Their fans are keen to get behind the good things, for all the frustration when things go wrong.

Sunderland don't want to take their foot off the gas, thinking it's going to be easy because they are 2-0 up.

They still need to work hard.

Anthony Patterson has been largely a bystander but he flings himself to his right to tip a low drive from John Buckley around the post after some patient approach play from the hosts.

Wednesday need to do what they haven't managed to do in a game this season, score three times.

In fact they have only scored twice in one match, at Hull, where they conceded four times in early August.

Sunderland seem happy to possess the ball for now - perhaps even they feel sorry for their hosts who look desperately short of confidence.

A moment of calm after the storm for Wednesday as the visitors enjoy a spell of possession in their own half.

Much has been said about the hosts' woes but Sunderland were also stung by that surprise 1-0 home defeat by Cardiff on Sunday.

Beware a wounded Black Cat when there is a Harvest Moon, as the old saying goes (probably!).

Sunderland's Jack Clarke celebrates his goalImage source, Rex Features

What a goal! There was only one thing in Jack Clarke's mind. He cut inside and found the bottom corner. 2-0.

He is in fine form and has to be one of the best players in the Championship, no question.

  19. goal

    Jack Clarke

Jack Clarke has the freedom of Sheffield on the left wing, he drives and drives towards the edge of the area, onto his right foot and thumps a curling shot from 20 yards past Devis Vasquez's left hand and into the bottom corner.

Five in five for Clarke as a crescendo of boos descend onto the field from three sides of Hillsborough.

Wednesday have a lot of depressing stats floating around at the moment, this is one of the more alarming.

When the Owls concede first in the Championship they have lost 34 of their last 36 matches.
