Dortmund work the ball well down the right with Donyell Malen threatening to charge away but Fabian Schär times a tackle to perfection. Schar then lifts his hands into the air to roar on his team-mates and the fans.

It was a brilliant tackle from Scahr to set them on their way and a great interchange between Wilson and Gordon.

Wilson took a touch and I don't know if he needed it. It just gave the keeper the chance to set himself.

Almost the leveller!

Newcastle are finally finding their groove as they break down the left.

The ball is eventually cut back to Callum Wilson who, from close range, prods the ball goalwards, but his effort is saved by Gregor Kobel.

There's serious belief in this Young Boys side now. City are in a game.

Callum WIlson makes a rare break upfield for Newcastle, driving from the halfwayline. But the forward is smothered by a wall of yellow defenders at the edge of the box.

The home supporters roar. They've had very little to shout about since half-time.

The flares have been lit again, filling the ground with smoke. I think it's fair to say the Young Boys fans enjoyed that!

Borussia Dortmund are looking confident now as Marco Reus strides forward before launching an effort from distance over the bar.

What a finish. Too easily in behind City, the first touch is excellent from Meschack Ella and he scoops it over Ederson who is caught in no mans land.

Newcastle have got to be quicker on the ball, they need to move the ball quicker.

They just aren't at it at the moment, too many sloppy passes and they need to improve on that if they are to get back in to this.

All the noise inside St James' Park is coming from the Dortmund fans at the moment as the visitors, all in yellow, continue to build up play in midfield.

Newcastle need a spark.

I don't see why Dortmund would change their gameplan in the second half.

Unlike PSG when they came here a couple of weeks ago who couldn't handle Newcastle's intensity - Dortmund can.

Tunde: A more clinical Young Boys team would be ahead by now as Man City gave away a couple of balls in the first half. But Young Boys have failed to capitalise on these errors. You don’t miss those against Man City as you know, City would certainly create and take their own chances.

It is a lovely created goal. A ball in from Rodri and a header from Ruben Dias, but Manuel Akanji reacts like a centre forward.

Akanji gets enough purchase on the ball and smothers it. A great start for City.
