The eight runners-up from the Europa League group stage and the eight third-placed teams from the Champions League group stage now enter a play-off round.

The winners of the eight play-off ties then advance to the last 16, where they join the eight group winners in the Europa League.

The Europa League knockout round play-off draw takes place in Nyon, Switzerland, on Monday 18 December.

West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes, speaking to TNT Sports, on the performance of goalscoring midfielder Edson Alvarez: "He had a bit of illness and has not been quite on it fully, so we were always going to take him off.

"He also got a dead leg tonight and need to see how that is. But he scored a really good goal, a well-worked move and a good combination with Jarrod Bowen."

On the impact of his newer players: "It has started well and the longer we will be together it will work much better.

"We're still introducing players who are new to the league and new to playing with us. I think they've done well.

"We're not halfway through the season and they've made massive contributions."

On the importance of avoiding the two-legged play-off round: "It is really massive at the moment because of the amount of games we've got and the scheduling - it's so important for the players and the staff.

"We're going into a really busy period and our culture means we play a lot of games at Christmas.

"But it seems they are squeezing in other games where they can and which seems a bit ridiculous to be honest."

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi told TNT Sports: "I lost my voice, I lost everything. It was an amazing game. We played amazing football. We deserved to reach the top of the table.

"We could have scored more goals but we are very happy, we are very proud, for the club, for Brighton, for our fans, for our players, for the people who work inside the club.

"This is the best moment in my time [here].

"The message is Saturday, Arsenal. Second one is I congratulated Adingra. He made a lot of mistakes but I love his attitude, his behaviour. The problem isn't making mistakes, it's after the mistakes if you try again. We are Brighton. We have to push, we have to try again if we make mistakes. I told them I'm really proud.

"We will play two games less. We want to dream. We want to prepare for that game for our best to win another step."

West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes, speaking to TNT Sports, on how he feels about topping the group: "We're thrilled thought we palyed well for long periods. We got a couple of goals up and then missed a couple of good chances which would have wrape dit up and kept us hanging on. But we did a really good job.

"It was a lot more like it, we've done very well in Europe over the last few years and this season as well. It was good win over a good German side. I thought we played even better than we did in Germany.

"We've only lost to Olympiakos, I think that's the only loss we've had in maybe 19/20 games which is a great record because were not a well-known European club at the moment. Overall tonight, and in the group, we deserve it."

Brighton midfielder Billy Gilmour told TNT Sports: "We've come and done it. Everyone in there is buzzing. But now we need to prepare for the weekend.

"To work with our gaffer is amazing. I'm really enjoying right now. Hopefully I can continue that [form]. I want to try to get on the ball and start stuff as much as possible.

"It's been a real joy. We've all worked really hard. Some of the results, we've felt hard done by.

"We're in the competition because we want to try to go and win it. That's the aim. We want to keep the standard in the league as well. Sometimes we haven't been at it."

Former West Ham midfielder Joe Cole on TNT Sports: "A fantastic performance. Really, really comfortable. Freiburg are a decent outfit who could have given West Ham trouble but they controlled the game from start to finish.

"There was a lovely balance to the team tonight with Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus causing [trouble] up front and the defence looking solid.

"Top of the group in the Europa League, having already won the Conference League!"

It's been an impressive group stage by West Ham.

They have won their last three games in the Europa League and only lost one of their six group games.

With things wrapped up, they go through top of the group with 15 points, three points above tonight's opponents Freiburg.

David Moyes' side are on a run of 347 minutes without conceding a goal in Europe and they have also scored in all six matches, netting 10 goals in total.

On whether he meant the dummy before he slotted in: "Yes, I was trying to take the ball but I saw it was going away from me so I had to wait. It was a great ball from Edson."

On himself and Edson Alvarez's form: "I'm still settling in but with the help of the players and the staff we're settling in well."
