It is almost two-and-a-half years since Wales drew 1-1 with Denmark in a friendly on this ground in what was just Gemma Grainger's second game in charge.

Tonight Wales take on a Danish team ranked 12th in the world - 17 places higher than Grainger's side - in the Nations League.

There are seven survivors from the Wales side which began the previous meeting with Denmark in the starting XI tonight.

But can Wales show signs of progress made under Grainger against high-class opponents?

Germany bounce back to crush Iceland

In the earlier kick-off, Germany recovered from their opening defeat to Denmark in impressive style.

Klara Buhl scored twice as Germany hammered Iceland 4-0 in Bochum, with Giulia Gwinn adding a penalty and Lea Schuller completing the scoring.

That sees Germany top of the group for now.

Denmark are pioneers in women's football and it'll be a huge boost to them beating two-time world champions Germany on Friday.

Very fit and disciplined, but I'll be really interested how they attack Wales tonight especially their front two of Pernille Harder and Amalie Vangsgaard.

On the flip side, Wales should be concerned with the lack of goals, they look shell-shocked in front of goal.

Wales seeking cutting edge

Wales bossed possession and attempts on goal against Iceland but still lost in Reykjavik.

But Wales boss Gemma Grainger says she is "not worried" about Wales' ability to score goals after that frustrating defeat.

Wales have only scored more than one goal in a game in one of their last 13 matches - a 4-1 friendly win at home against Northern Ireland last April.

"For me, when you create chances against higher-ranked opposition, that's the aim to start with," said Grainger.

"You're not going to create 10, 15, 20 chances against the best teams. We had eight against Iceland and it doesn't worry me at all.

"I'd be more worried if we weren't creating them. For me, it's the finer details that we've got to train at and speak about in meetings.

"We've got incredible attacking players and if they keep making those runs, they'll get chances and finish them.

"It's the first time for us, in this phase of our development, that we've been that dominant especially against such higher-ranked opposition.

"It's one of the best performances we've had."

Iceland captain Glodis Viggosdottir headed home the only goal as Wales began their inaugural Women's Nations League campaign with defeat.

Gemma Grainger's side dominated the first half, but slack defending from a corner allowed an unmarked Viggosdottir to head in from a few yards out.

Carrie Jones had Wales' best chance of the first half, but Telma Ivarsdottir got down quickly to make the save.

Defeat leaves Wales third in League A3, above Germany on goal difference.
