  1. Post update

    England 1-1 Italy

Destiny Udogie risks a red as he drags down Phil Foden. The ref gives only a free-kick. The Tottenham full-back needs to be careful.

  2. Post update

    England 1-1 Italy

    Decent effort!

Kalvin Phillips looks to make up for a sluggish first half with a whipped shot that just clears the bar. It comes from good pressing from men further forward.

B: This England side will go out at the group stages if they qualify. For the collection of talent they have, their play is so lethargic and uninspiring. I can't help but feel another manager could be getting way more out of them.

Andrew: I’ve said it before, while it’s hard to argue with Southgate’s results (especially in tournaments), it’s harder to watch an England squad so full of attacking talent and dynamic players set up to play in such a slow and cautious manner.

  4. Post update

    England 1-1 Italy

Oh, I don't know. Maybe Foden was blocked maliciously by Destiny Udogie. Looks a lot worse slowed down. No penalty awarded, though. We crack on.

Foden pulls up his socks after getting back to his feet.
  5. Post update

    England 1-1 Italy

Phil Foden flings himself to the ground in the box, making out that he is blocked as he looks to skip past an Italian defender. Difficult to judge on first watch if he's fouled or not. My instinct is that he wasn't.

It came at the end of a nice, sweeping England move, though.

Foden lies on the floor after being flattened.
  6. Post update

    England 1-1 Italy

Looks like half the fans aren't bothered about the second half judging by how slowly they're getting back to their seats after the break.

SMS Message: It feels like the 'Southgate out' brigade have just sapped all joy and pride from the national team. We should be buoyant right now, but instead it's all about who shouldn't be playing or managing. It's really sad to see. Is any other nation so self-defeating? from Chris
    Chris

Zred: I didn’t know Udogie is Italian, MOTM so far and growing with each game

  8. KICK-OFF

    England 1-1 Italy

Off we go again. All square. No changes.

  9. Struggle for Phillips

    England 1-1 Italy

    Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

Tough half for Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips, who was booked early on and looked well off the pace. He looked like a player who is short of serious action. There is a reason for that - he is short of serious action.

Barella heads the ball away ahead of Phillips.

  11. Some record...

    HT: England 1-1 Italy

Harry Kane has been directly involved in 32 goals in his last 30 appearances for England (26 goals and six assists), including either scoring or assisting in each of his last 10 games for the Three Lions.

  12. 'Very level game so far'

    HT: England 1-1 Italy

    Matt Upson

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Kane and Acerbi battle for the ball in an aerial duel.

    It's been a bit of a to-and-fro game.

A solid start from England, then the goal came for Italy, a real sucker punch.

The stadium went quiet, the atmosphere dropped and it was Jude Bellingham who decided to drive forward, positive pass and run to win the penalty. Then England were back level.

A very level game so far.

  13. HALF-TIME

    Italy 1-1 England

Italy shocked Wembley by scoring from their first shot on goal, but Harry Kane's penalty means we go into the break all square.

As it stands, England are qualifying for the finals in Germany next summer.

England players celebrate with Harry Kane after his goal.
  14. 'Udogie adds another dimension to Italy'

    England 1-1 Italy

    Matt Upson

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

We've touched on him a couple of times in this first half already, Destiny Udogie.

He's just shown there exactly why he has started tonight. Such a driving run, bursting forward with such energy. Coming into the box from the left and doing a few one-twos.

Just brings another dimension to this Italy side.

Udogie pauses to pull up his socks.
  15. Post update

    England 1-1 Italy

    Big save from Jordan Pickford!

Destiny Udogie is allowed to turn in the box and fire low, but the Everton keeper is there with a really important block.

from amongst a scramble, Giovanni Di Lorenzo sees an effort deflected over.

  16. INJURY TIME

    England 1-1 Italy

There'll be three added minutes. The band have started playing 'The Great Escape' theme. Not sure this falls into that category.

  17. Post update

    England 1-1 Italy

    Rashford takes aim at goal.

    Save!

A long ball forward from Jordan Pickford is allowed to drop and Harry Kane finds Marcus Rashford.

The Man Utd forward buys a yard on the outside and forces Gianluigi Donnarumma to dive and push the ball aside.
