Horsham were worried that the fixture change would affect their travelling numbers, but those that have made the trip from Sussex are already in full voice.

For the hosts, Callum Styles tries the spectacular with an overhead kick from Owen Dodgson's corner but it's behind for a GK.

Fabio Jalo, 17, is also promoted from the bench. The forward has been capped by Portugal at under-18 level and spent five years of his youth career at Benfica.

Defender Jack Strange, who was part of Queens Park Rangers' youth academy, was their hero against the Bath side, scoring both of their goals.

• This is the first meeting between these teams in the FA Cup proper and the Tykes’ first tie with a non-league team since losing 1-0 to Altrincham in November 2015.
• Horsham are in the FA Cup first round for the second time in the last three seasons, going out against Carlisle in the first round in 2021-22. They have only reached the second round once, knocking out Maidenhead United in the first round in 2007-08.
• Barnsley have won five of their last six home matches in the competition, their only defeat during that run coming against Chelsea in February 2021, when Thomas Tuchel had a taste of Oakwell.
• Look away from this one, Horsham fans: you've lost all three of your away games in the FA Cup proper, shipping 17 goals in the process: a 9-1 hammering by Notts County in 1947, 6-2 loss at Swansea in 2007 and 2-0 defeat at Carlisle in 2021. Time to make history?

Sheppey have an in-form striker in feared non-league marksman Danny Bradshaw, who re-joined the Ites in June and took the number nine shirt, having previously scored 126 goals in 150 appearances for them.

"It was always a hard decision to leave the Ites in the first place and I had every intention of coming back at some point," Bradshaw said when he returned.

"The supporters are great and as this is where I live too, I’ve always had a close connection to the club.

“Sheppey is a progressing club, both on and off the pitch. The facilities just get better and better each year, with the pitch being one of the best you will play on."

The prolific poacher, who scored a goal in each of Sheppey's meetings with Billericay on their way to reaching this round on penalties, is also the younger brother of former Saddlers striker Tom Bradshaw, who's currently at Millwall.

The elder footballing Bradshaw has scored more than 100 career goals, averaging almost one every other game at Walsall between 2014 and 2016 to earn bigger moves - first to Barnsley, then to the Lions.

Sheppey United’s first ever match in the FA Cup proper is their first competitive meeting with Walsall, who have won their last two games in the competition against non-league sides. Both of those games were away and finished 1-0.

The Saddlers are on a run of four FA Cup away wins, which is their best ever sequence on the road in the competition proper.

The only time they haven't reached the second round in the last five campaigns was in 2020-21, but they made up for that with their best run for eight years last time around, including a 2-1 win at Stockport County in the third round which defender Liam Gordon justifiably enjoyed (above).

They then went out in the fourth round with a 1-0 defeat at home to Leicester City.

...and welcome to tonight's live FA Cup first round coverage, in which the first step beyond qualifying on the road to Wembley features tantalising encounters for two non-league clubs against EFL teams.

Walsall - 15th in League Two - travel to Sheppey, who play four divisions below them in the Isthmian League South-East Division and have an artificial pitch.

Sheppey - the lowest ranked team in the competition - knocked out Isthmian Premier League club Billericay Town in the previous round to get to this point, but one of the teams in their victims' division, Horsham, went through to set up a meeting with League One side Barnsley tonight.

Horsham are seventh in their division, while their hosts are fifth in the third tier after going five games unbeaten including three wins along the way in which they kept a clean sheet.
