These two are playing like their minds are already on their Christmas dinner. Such a poor game so far.

    Paul

After seeing West Ham vs Liverpool and now against Man United, I understand the anger from some fans towards Moyes. They are even more passive than United! Playing at home vs a very poor side and not even trying to press and force mistakes... it's way to comfortable for Manchester.

    Nick

Everyone complaining about the quality of football so far clearly haven’t watched many 12.30 kick offs.

I think David Moyes will be very frustrated. I think Erik ten Hag will see that they had a strong finish at the end of the second half.

  3. 'Nuno will make Forest solid'published at 13:27 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

Nottingham Forest v Bournemouth (15:00 GMT)

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC's Football Daily podcast

Nuno, you are thinking he did really well at Wolves and then went to Tottenham and struggled with his style of play.

They were a counter-attacking team. When he was at Wolves they were a counter-attacking team and then when he went to Tottenham he tried to play like that.

One thing I know he will make Forest is solid at the back. He will have to play on the counter-attack. It will be a big few months for Nuno because the owner demands a lot.

  4. 'Everton's performances have been building all season'published at 13:26 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    Tottenham v Everton (15:00 GMT)

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on Football Focus

It has been a brilliant reaction from Everton to the points deduction, but I think the performances all season have been building to this point. The situation galvanised the fanbase, the players, and the club as a whole even more.

Sean Dyche is putting together a good squad who are all very aware of the style of football that suits the team, playing without the ball, and in most of their victories this season they have had less possession.

Keeping four clean sheets on the bounce [in the league] has only made those victories easier to get.

  5. 'Tom would want us to play in the warrior way he does'published at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    Luton v Newcastle (15:00 GMT)

    Luton Town

Luton Town CEO Gary Sweet speaking to Football Focus: "I think it always is an emotionally charged occasion here [at Kenilworth Road], it is always intimate at least. I think it is going to be a special occasion today, and I hope it is, for Tom [Lockyer].

"This is a game where we want to show our respects to Tom in the way that we play football. He wouldn't want us to drop out of this game, he would want us to go onto this pitch in the warrior way that he would play the game, so that is what we are expecting.

"Focusing on football has been difficult this week, but we have done for the past day or two, and I hope the lads can pull it out for him today."

    Trailblazer, history-maker, role model.

Already an experienced referee who has taken charge of matches at the highest level in the women's game, Rebecca Welch's rise to the top of men's football in England has been meteoric.

She hit the headlines last week when it was announced she would be in charge of her first top-flight game, just two years on from becoming the first female appointed to an EFL match when Harrogate played Port Vale.

Harrogate boss Simon Weaver praised Welch's "very good" performance on the day, making "important calls" and the "right calls" - and Welch has gone on an upward trajectory since, refereeing matches in the Championship and the third round of the FA Cup.

In the women's game, she has been a leading light for English officials in the Women's Super League as well as the 2017 and 2020 FA Cup finals.

Her work has been recognised on the international stage too as she was added to Fifa's elite list of international match officials in December 2020, before refereeing at the Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in the summer.

    West Ham 0-0 Man Utd

    Mark Warburton
Former Brentford and QPR boss on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think the fans love to see someone come through and be more patient with the young players.

They have got to be good enough for the first team. It's not about romance. They have to be good enough.

You have to make sure there is no glass ceiling and give them confidence to take the opportunity.

This is so drab...I'm digging out my season review DVDs of the Louis van Gaal seasons...!

    Jack, St Albans

This is so dire from 2 teams in the most 'exciting' league in the world. 2 very average mid table teams producing nothing so far. Think I'll have switched over to a Xmas movie by half time...

Areola did well but it really should be 1-0 to United. That's a really good chance there for United.

    Huge chance for United!

West Ham switch off and suddenly Alejandro Garnacho is free inside the box.

Alphonse Areola sticks out his leg to make a vital block. That was United's best chance by far.

From a West Ham perspective, I am concerned about this right-hand side. I have seen Bruno Fernandes coming down the left and Luke Shaw too. Mavropanos has taken a few unnecessary risks too.

    That's more like it.

Twists and turns inside the West Ham box from Alejandro Garnacho but his final delivery is straight into the arms of Alphonse Areola.

Then Antony digs out an attempt but it's tame.
