  1. 'Livi never got a foothold'published at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

    FT: Hearts 1-0 Livingston

    Brian McLauchlin
    BBC Sport Scotland at Tynecastle

Rarely have I witnessed such a one sided game at Tynecastle, but in the end one goal was enough to send the home fans away happy with the result.

Steven Naismith has been under pressure in recent weeks but his team tonight never allowed Livingston a chance to get a foothold in the match.

Jack Hamilton in the visitors goal kept Hearts at bay for most of the game, but there was nothing he could do about the winner from Vargas.

The three points will do Hearts a power of good ahead of Sunday's semi-final.

For Livingston, their defence stood tall for most of the game and on another day could have held on for the draw.

  2. Game gone?published at 22:12 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

    Dundee 0-2 Rangers

    Kheredine Idessane
BBC Sport Scotland at Dens Park

It's so easy for Rangers to cut through Dundee, both for the Danilo goal and for chances either side of that.

Danilo could actually have had a hat-trick in the first hour alone. For a side that had only lost one of their previous seven, Dundee haven't really been at it.

Rangers, on the other hand, absolutely have.

Danilo drifts off the shoulder of Joe Shaughnessy and lifts his shot towards goal, but it goes past the post.

    The Brazilian is looking sharp.

Appreciate that there isn't much to be positive about for Well fans, but Mika Biereth now has three goals and two assists in the Premiership.

He hasn't started a game. He's played 94 minutes. Quite remarkable.

  5. 'Shinnie at heart of fine Dons display'published at 22:09 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

    FT: Motherwell 2-4 Aberdeen

    Andy Burke
    BBC Scotland at Fir Park

This was exactly what the doctor ordered for the Dons and Barry Robson after a sticky spell.

It was a display of almost complete dominance. They controlled the game throughout, passing the ball with a poise and accuracy that was badly lacking at Rugby Park on Sunday.

Graeme Shinnie was at the heart of it, pulling the strings in a display of cool control in the middle of the park. Jamie McGrath too contributed plenty over and above his two goals, Bojan Miovski’s movement up front spread nervousness throughout the Motherwell defence and the Dons looked pretty solid at the back before conceding two late goals.

Having started the evening in 11th, the Dons are now up into the top six and head to Hampden for the League Cup semi-final in fine fettle.

For Motherwell it’s now six league games without a win and on this evidence that wait could go on. They need to improve and quickly if they are to avoid getting sucked into a dogfight.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

    Dundee 0-2 Rangers

Luke McCowan's shot is pushed away by Jack Butland but only to the feet of Amadou Bakayoko.

The Rangers keeper speeds across to make another save!

GOAL! Dundee 0-2 Rangerspublished at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

    Danilo

He makes no mistake this time.

A Scott Wright pass is popped off first time by Abdallah Sima to Danilo, who fires past Trevor Carson brilliantly.

    Dundee 0-1 Rangers

Danilo, you have to do better.

He zips through one on one with Trevor Carson but shows no composure and blasts over.

    Huge chance.

  10. Doc's orderspublished at 21:57 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

    Dundee 0-1 Rangers

    Kheredine Idessane
BBC Sport Scotland at Dens Park

Yep, you could see how unhappy Tony Docherty was with what he saw in the first half.

So the Dundee manager hooks a couple of players at the interval, Scott Tiffoney and Ricki Lamie. In their place, Zak Rudden and Cammy Kerr.

  11. FULL-TIME Motherwell 2-4 Aberdeenpublished at 21:53 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

A much-needed win for Barry Robson and Aberdeen.

They were well worth their three points at Fir Park in what is perhaps their best display of the season.

Motherwell's winless run stretches to six games.

GOAL! Motherwell 2-4 Aberdeenpublished at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

    Mika Biereth

Another Mika Biereth goal. But it's all too late.

A cross from the left was flicked on by Slobodan Rubezic, straight to Biereth at the back-post and he lashed it in with some venom.

    It won't be enough.

    Well goal
  14. Positives for prospective new Saints bosspublished at 21:50 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

    FT: St Johnstone 2-1 Kilmarnock

    Tyrone Smith
    BBC Scotland at McDiarmid Park

While we can’t talk about a new manager bounce yet for St Johnstone, we can perhaps talk about a caretaker manager bounce.

Alex Cleland got a tune out of his players tonight, dangerous going forward, and solid all over the park - and they showed real guts to stand firm having been reduced to 10 men.

A display which will give the home fans hope that they can dig themselves out of the relegation mires, and will show the prospective new manager - whoever he may be - that he will be inheriting the tools to do just that.

For all that has been good about Kilmarnock this season, and there has been a lot that has been good, Derek McInnes knows he needs to sort out their away from.

Killie have been great at home, but they have struggled on the road, the result in Perth providing more evidence of that.

  15. Balogun impressing for Rangerspublished at 21:47 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

    HT Dundee 0-1 Rangers

    Kheredine Idessane
BBC Sport Scotland at Dens Park

He's 35 years young and this is only his third appearance for Rangers so far this season, but Leon Balogun can be very happy with his evening so far.

Solid at the back, he's taken the odd rampaging run upfield, which caused enough chaos in the Dundee backline to bring about the opening goal when Trevor Carson spilled the ball right at the feet of Ryan Jack.

I can only imagine Tony Docherty is reading the riot act in the home dressing room as his side haven't really turned up so far.

  16. FULL-TIME Hearts 1-0 Livingstonpublished at 21:46 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

A much-needed win for Hearts and Steven Naismith, courtesy of Kenneth Vargas' first goal for the club.

A smashing effort on the end of Jorge Grant's cracking assist.

A very well deserved win for the hosts at Tynecastle, they were utterly dominant.

  17. FULL-TIME St Johnstone 2-1 Kilmarnockpublished at 21:45 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

A first Scottish Premiership win of the season for mangerless St Johnstone.

Nicky Clark's early double cuts the gap on Livingston and Ross County to just three points, while Kilmarnock drop to fifth as their troubles away from home continue.

    HT: Dundee 0-1 Rangers

    Kheredine Idessane
BBC Sport Scotland at Dens Park

It's 21:40 and we've just broken up for half-time here at Dens.

It's going to be a long night, especially for Dundee and their fans after the events of the night so far.

Absolutely nothing has gone their way from the outset.

Two delays which were nothing to do with them, a gift of a goal given away and precious little to offer in the face of a comfortable display from the away side up until now.

  20. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:40 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2023

    Celtic 2-1 St Mirren

Celtic had to huff and puff, but they have done enough to come away with all three points tonight.

Zach Hemming made several fine saves for St Mirren, but Oh Hyeon-gyu finally found a way past the Buddies keeper to the delight of the home crowd.
