Northern Irishman Cam McGeehan taps home the rebound from close range to give Colchester the lead at home to sixth-placed Barrow.

Grimsby are also 1-0 up as Toby Mullarkey crosses from the right for Rekeil Pyke at the back post who finishes second time.

Swindon could really do with a win after a miserable run and have a decent opening.

Dan Kemp clips a cross to the onrushing Remeao Hutton who manages a side-footed volley, but Stags keeper Christy Pym claims it.

At the other end, Baily Cargill heads narrowly over from an Aaron Lewis corner.

    • Grimsby Town have still not won away from home this season, but interim management pair Ben Davies and Shaun Pearson are unbeaten after four games. They host bottom-side Sutton United, who drew with lowly Tranmere last Saturday.
    • Barrow, sixth and unbeaten in nine games in all competitions, visit 17th-placed Colchester United.
    • MK Dons, improving under Mike Williamson with seven points from four games, visit mid-table Salford City, for whom top scorer Matt Smith is set for his 500th professional appearance.
    • Tranmere Rovers, only out of the bottom two on goal-difference, host Gillingham who are fresh from winning their first three points under new head coach Stephen Clemence against Salford last weekend.
    • Elsewhere, AFC Wimbledon host second-placed Notts County, Crawley entertain low-scoring Harrogate, Crewe Alexandra welcome Doncaster Rovers and Walsall face bottom side Forest Green Rovers.
  18. Will Stags extend unbeaten start?published at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2023

    Swindon v Mansfield

Mansfield boast the last remaining unbeaten record in League Two after 17 matches, and are one of just two sides - with League One leaders Portsmouth - yet to taste defeat this season as December looms large on the horizon.

It’s been founded on League Two’s meanest defence which has shipped a miserly 13 goals in the league this season. Nigel Clough's side have also added goals to their defensive steel in recent weeks, finding the net 10 times in the last four.

The second-placed Stags start the day six points behind leaders Stockport and hunting a sixth straight league win.

You’re never short of goalmouth action when Swindon are playing - at both ends.

Michael Flynn’s side are the joint-second top scorers in League Two with a superb return of 37 goals in 18 games.

But the stat is tempered by one of the division’s most porous defences - only bottom side Sutton, Newport and Colchester have shipped more than their 32 goals.

The 11th-placed Robins will be desperate to end a slump which has seen them lose six of their last nine in the league - picking up just five points in that run.

Defeat at Accrington last time out was most definitely not in the script for League Two promotion chasers Wrexham.

A subdued afternoon in East Lancashire saw Phil Parkinson’s side lose their 11-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

While the eyes of many these days are on which famous faces will pop up in the director’s box at the Racecourse, on the pitch fourth-placed Wrexham are piling up a formidable home record.

They’ve picked up 20 points from a possible 24 since opening day defeat to AFC Wimbledon, and play Morecambe at an opportune time.

The Shrimps lost manager Derek Adams to the lure of SPFL side Ross County in midweek and John McMahon and former Manchester City midfielder Ged Brannan will take charge of today’s trip.

Morecambe kick off after back-to-back league defeats but have had a fine season so far and sit ninth, two points outside the play-offs with two games in hand on those above them.

  20. Hatters look to rewrite the record bookspublished at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2023

    Newport v Stockport (15:00 GMT)

Records could tumble at Rodney Parade this afternoon as leaders Stockport County come to town eyeing a 13th-straight league win.

That number alone may get any superstitious Hatters fans a little jittery, but if they can seal the deal it would set a new fourth-tier record for consecutive wins, having pulled level with Luton’s 2001-02 side by beating Colchester last weekend.

It would also make them the first EFL side to win 13 successive games since Kevin Keegan’s swaggering Newcastle United side in the 1991-92 season, and also move them within one win of the all-time EFL record.

More importantly in boss Dave Challinor’s mind it would be another tick in the box for their promotion push - they sit six points clear at the summit and eight points clear of fourth-placed Wrexham.

Newport’s take on this afternoon’s clash is very different as they seek to improve a sequence of just two wins from their last 12 league outings.

The run has seen The Exiles slide down to 20th, and last weekend’s defeat at high-flying Mansfield left them just five points above the dreaded drop zone.

Only bottom side Sutton have conceded more League Two goals than Newport’s 34. As luck would have it, today they face the division’s most potent attack.
