  1. 'Contrasting play from Walsall strikers'published at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Walsall 1-0 Alfreton

    Darren Robinson
Former Derby coach on BBC Radio Derby

There is contrasting striker play from Walsall.

Jamille Matt is that big, orthodox number nine. He occupies the centre-halves.

Douglas James-Taylor is a little bit more on-the-shoulder, so he tries to get behind the eyeline, just trying to give them something to think about.

They have got options up front.

  2. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Scarborough 0-0 Forest Green

A pretty even contest as we reach the halfway point of the first half in North Yorkshire.

But Scarborough have come closer with forward Frank Mulhern seeing his deflected effort come back off the bar.

  3. goal

GOAL: Crewe 0-1 Bristol Roverspublished at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    John Marquis (18 mins)

The Gas have scored one goal - and only one - in each of their last seven games.

And they're on the board again here tonight through John Marquis.

He shimmies around a couple of defenders, finds some space and curls a finish into the bottom-left corner.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Barnet 0-2 Newport

On-loan Southampton midfielder Jack Payne can't stay out of the action.

His evening now reads one goal, one assist and one yellow card as he is booked for trying to rugby tackle winger Idris Kanu.

  5. Postpublished at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Walsall 1-0 Alfreton

A nervy moment for Alfreton goalkeeper George Willis who spills a ball he should have gathered.

It falls for Oisin McEntee for Walsall but on a tight angle he can only hit the side netting.

  6. 'Alfreton looking to build momentum'published at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Walsall 1-0 Alfreton

    Darren Robinson
Former Derby coach on BBC Radio Derby

Walsall are getting it down and playing and Alfreton are trying, too.

Instead of kicking the ball long and releasing pressure, Alfreton goalkeeper George Willis put the ball into feet.

They are maintaining possession, just trying to build a little bit of momentum.

  7. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Barnet 0-2 Newport

The game is almost settled as Bryn Morris lines up a free-kick from a long way out and his effort is touched onto the crossbar by Laurie Walker.

That was nearly goodnight Vienna for Barnet.

  8. goal

GOAL: Barnet 0-2 Newportpublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Omar Bogle (13 mins)

    Dreamland for Newport!

It's roles reversed for this goal as Jack Payne turns provider for Omar Bogle to make it two.

This time, Payne's low ball is just missed by Seb Palmer-Houlden and Bogle cannot miss from two yards.

There is an initial question of offside as the ball was probably going in anyway, but replays show Bogle was onside.

  9. Postpublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Barnet 0-1 Newport

Dave Challinor, Rory Delap, Ben Tozer.

Barnet have their own long-throw specialist in Jordan Cropper and Newport have had to deal with a couple of his deliveries already.

They may have a few more to cope with over the course of the evening.

  10. goal

GOAL: Port Vale 1-0 Stevenagepublished at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Ben Garrity (6 mins)

Vale lead in the Potteries after a dominant opening.

    Walsall 1-0 Alfreton

    Darren Robinson
Former Derby coach on BBC Radio Derby

Just what we wished not to happen, has happened.

The pitch played it's part there.

Alfreton were in a really good position at the top end of the pitch and they tried to roll the ball back.

The ball got stuck and Walsall were quick to pounce.

  12. Credit to the hardy fewpublished at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Scarborough 0-0 Forest Green

We have heard that there is a very healthy home attendance in place at the Flamingo Land Stadium, which includes around 40 or so who are supporting Forest Green.

They probably did not expect to have to make the 466-mile round trip north from Gloucestershire for a second time after winning the replay 5-2 last month.

    That is true football dedication!

  13. 'Putting the day job to the back of his mind'published at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Scarborough 0-0 Forest Green

    David Ward
    BBC Radio York commentator

Scarborough wing-back Luca Colville works at the gym in York, that is his day job as a personal trainer.

Tonight though, he will put that to the back of his mind as he is out there in front of us playing for Scarborough.

They almost took a very early lead in the original tie but in tonight’s replay, Walsall definitely are ahead early in the piece.

Jamille Matt with the goal and a settler for the League Two side, who couldn’t find a way through up in Derbyshire last week.

  15. goal

GOAL: Barnet 0-1 Newportpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Lewis Payne (6 mins)

    Cracking goal!

The League Two side are in front and teenage midfielder Jack Payne is the player to get it.

They win the ball on halfway and work the ball well along the deck out to Omar Bogle on the left and his low ball is turned in at the back stick by Payne.

    Excellent football from the Exiles.

  16. Postpublished at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Barnet 0-0 Newport

Almost a mix-up in the first minute for the Bees between goalkeeper Laurie Walker and one of his centre-backs, but they get away with it.

For those not used to these teams, Barnet are in their home kit of orange/gold shirts and black shorts, the same colours as Newport's regular colours!

Remember we have one first-round tie to be played to a finish, one second-round game and three second-round replays.

How much drama will we have on our hands come 10pm?

  18. Exiles top-scorer Evans missingpublished at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023

    Barnet v Newport (19:45 GMT)

Bad news for the visitors as top scorer Will Evans has failed a pre-match fitness test.

Evans has scored 14 goals for the team currently 15th in League Two, so that is a significant blow for the Exiles.
