    Newcastle United

Newcastle defender Dan Burn speaking on ITV: "It was a special win.

"I think there was a lot of build up to the game so to come through with a win and a clean sheet is great.

"It has been a long time since we've played this type of game. If you can ask fans whether they would rather advance in the Champions League or beat Sunderland, I think they would pick beating Sunderland.

"It was a great day and the crowd really made it.

"We've had a lot of games so it has been hard to train and habits have fallen away a bit, but that was back to us today, the way we pressed and fought."

On going all the way in the FA Cup: "We spoke about it the last two seasons, we want to win something.

"It has been so long since we won something and it would be amazing to win the FA Cup."

What a beautiful day in Stoke today - much better than trying to travel south down the M6 but that's another story.

This is the third time Stoke and Brighton have met in the FA Cup.

On the first occasion, in 2011, Stoke got to the final, last season - when the pair met in the fifth round, Brighton reached the semi-finals.

So whoever wins today will fancy their chances of a long run in the competition.

Gillingham v Sheffield United (15:00 GMT)

League Two side Gillingham welcome Premier League opposition today, hoping to cause an upset and reach the fourth round.

Sheffield United are currently bottom of the league and in big relegation trouble so they will be keen to get back to winning ways.

Chris Wilder's side have progressed from 18 of their last 19 FA Cup ties against sides from a lower division.

They will need to contain Gillingham’s Tom Nichols, who has been involved in eight goals in his last seven FA Cup appearances.

Asked about the importance of the game, Wilder said: "We’re full tilt, we’re all in for the FA Cup, without a shadow of a doubt.

“We’ve not won many games this season. We are a Premier League team, we have to go there with full respect to Gillingham and Stephen Clemence, but I’m expecting us to win. Our fans are expecting us to win."

  5. QPR's test against Cherriespublished at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January

    QPR v Bournemouth (15:00 GMT)

Bournemouth are one of three Premier League sides kicking off in the 15:00 GMT slot.

They take on Queens Park Rangers, who have had a tough season so far and currently sit second bottom of the Championship.

They have not won any of their last six matches, with their last victory coming on 9 December against Hull City.

QPR did beat West Brom in 2012-13 when both sides were in the Premier League but failed to win their other 11 FA Cup ties against top-tier opposition.

Bournemouth's best result in the FA Cup was reaching the quarter-finals in 2020-21.

They were knocked out in the third round last season by Burnley and have lost their last two FA Cup games against sides from a lower division.

  6. Can Stoke build home form?published at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January

    Stoke v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

Premier League outfit Brighton have a good record in the FA Cup recently.

They reached the semi-finals last season and have lost just one of their last seven third round ties.

They met today's opponents Stoke in the fifth round last season and beat them 1-0 away from home.

Stoke have played out a few draws recently and haven't won at home since 25 October against Leeds United.

But new boss Steven Schumacher, who was appointed on 19 December with the club three points above the relegation zone, has started to see an improvement in performances.

Can they cause an upset at home today against a Brighton side missing a few key players?

A crisp but sunny day on the South Coast at St Mary's where League Two underdogs Walsall are bidding to upset Championship high-fliers Southampton.

Saints are unbeaten in 18 games and boss Russell Martin had insisted they would field a strong side for the visit of the Saddlers - but he has made nine changes.

Martin has never progressed beyond the third round of the FA Cup as a manager - this is his fifth season in the competition in a managerial capacity.

Walsall thumped Grimsby 6-1 on New Year's Day but suffered a big blow yesterday as 10-goal top league scorer Freddie Draper was recalled by Lincoln. Danny Johnson replaces Draper in Walsall's only change.

Sunderland have worked hard and I think they will be disappointed with the first half - they were a bit timid.

But if you look at the differences in finances in these clubs, the result was always going to be a tough one for Sunderland.

We'll be focusing on these three matches in particular, which involve Premier League sides:

    Queens Park Rangers v Bournemouth

    Stoke City v Brighton

    Gillingham v Sheffield United

As well as those, there's another seven matches taking place at 15:00 GMT.

There is a first FA Cup meeting between Championship side Blackburn Rovers, quarter-finalists last season, and League One's Cambridge United.

Two National League sides are on the road as league leaders Chesterfield are at Watford, while Eastleigh head to League Two's Newport County.

Eastleigh, the lowest ranked side, knocked out Reading in the second round and are looking to reach the fourth round for the first time.

Second tier sides Hull City and Birmingham City - led by interim boss Steve Spooner after Wayne Rooney's sacking - go head-to-head.

Meanwhile Southampton, who are flying in the Championship at the moment, host League Two's Walsall.

Championship outfits Norwich City and Plymouth Argyle take on Bristol Rovers and Sutton United respectively.

Comfortable in the end for Newcastle but given how the draws have gone so far I wouldn't be surprised to get Real Madrid or Argentina in the next round.

It is a fitting scoreline. There was a little bit of fightback from Sunderland when they changed the system.

But Newcastle look like they have more quality all over the park.

Also don't forget the effect Anthony Gordon has had on this game.
