GOAL! Hearts 0-1 Ross Countypublished at 16:15 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    Alex Cochrane (own goal)

It's really unlucky for Alex Cochrane, who just turns the ball into the back of his own net.

The ball across the box finds the feet of Josh Sims, who tangles with the Hearts man as the ball bundles into the back of the net.

    Hearts 0-0 Ross County

Alan Forrest goes to ground in the box and the referee has brandished a yellow card at the attacker.

He gets past goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw who looks like he just clips the legs of Forrest.

It's checked but play goes on.

Up the other end, Ross County have a corner but Hearts manage to clear it pretty comfortably.

    Kilmarnock 0-1 Dundee

Amadou Bakayoko looks up to the sky as he misses the chance to double the Dundee advantage.

David Watson has his pocket picked on the edge of the box, allowing the visitors to stream forward in numbers.

Luke McCowan's drilled ball just eludes Bakayoko, whose lunge is inches short of a connection.

  4. GREAT SAVE!published at 16:11 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    Hearts 0-0 Ross County

Hearts have looked the much sharper of the two sides in the opening minutes of this second half.

Ross Laidlaw has already been forced into an early save from Alan Forrest's shot.

    Motherwell 3-1 Livingston

Blair Spittal has acres of space after cutting inside from the left, but his wild 30-yard curling effort never threatens Shamal George's goal.

    Kilmarnock 0-1 Dundee

Interesting change from Derek McInnes at half-time.

Defender Robbie Deas has been sacrificed for the forward-thinking Liam Polworth, who heads into the middle of the park.

It suggests Killie will shift to a back-three, with Danny Armstrong and Matt Kennedy moving to wing-back.

There has been a real freshness about Ross County and maybe not surprising given their two weeks off after postponed matches.

Hearts have looked sluggish throughout the first half so it's no surprise to see Yutaro Oda and Alan Forrest introduced.

    HT: Aberdeen 0-1 St Mirren

    Tyrone Smith
    BBC Scotland at Pittodrie

Remember I said it wasn't snowing at Pittodrie? Well it is now.

At least the booing at the half-time whistle will keep the home fans warm.

St Mirren have the lead, and don't forget it could have been 2-0 if Mark O'Hara hadn't fluffed his lines.

Aberdeen have come from behind to win their last two league games, they are going to have to dig deep again.

  12. 'Proud' Clement sees more improvementpublished at 16:02 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    FT: Celtic 2-1 Rangers

But Rangers boss Philippe Clement says he is "proud" of the way his side battled

"It was a game that could have been a draw," the Rangers manager tells BBC Scotland. "It was a game that we could have won.

"We had more shots than Celtic in an away game and without any support. My team showed braveness on the ball and created chances. Celtic was more clinical in this and the second goal is world class and that doesn't happen every week."

Clement thinks the way his side came from 2-0 down despite being down to 10 men is evidence of their improvement since he became manager.

"They are growing and they are getting better and better," he says. "They could not have done that two months ago. I am proud of them.

"With 10 to keep on going and still creating chances. We were the team We see this team growing week to week.

"If my team keeps this mentality and braveness on the ball, we are going to take a lot of points this season."

  13. Clement questions hand ball callpublished at 16:00 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    FT: Celtic 2-1 Rangers

Rangers manager Philippe Clement thinks his side should have a penalty when the ball struck the hand of Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston shortly before half time and disputes the suggestion that the decision was made because Abdallah Sima was offside in the build-up.

"I am really curious why this hand ball was not given in the first half because it is a really decisive moment in the game," he tells BBC Scotland after his side's 2-1 defeat.

"It is a clear hand ball, so it is a penalty."

As for the suggestion of offside, he adds: "It is strange that we did not get this information until the second half. It is an explanation afterwards to cover a decision that was wrong."

    FT: Celtic 2-1 Rangers

Celtic manager Brendan RodgersImage source, SNS

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has rated it a "very satisfying" and "fantastic win" for his Premiership leaders over their nearest rivals.

"At the end of December, these can be challenging games - a lot of fatigue, plus we had played in midweek and Rangers had the free week to prepare," he tells BBC Scotland.

"I thought it was deserved, we scored two outstanding goals and had other opportunities and maybe didn't pick the right pass.

"The only downside for me was when they went down to 10 men. We didn't control the game enough and we invited pressure."

Rodgers thinks his side can only go from strength to strength.

"I know the players and, for me, there's still so much improvement to make and players to come back who will make us better," he says.

"We hope we can improve the squad as well. This was a really good performance. Now we have to recover and maximise that on Tuesday.

"There's a lot of noise around us. I sensed that everyone feels we are in constant crisis mode here at Celtic, but I don't feel that. We we will get better and improve."

  16. HALF-TIME Hearts 0-0 Ross Countypublished at 15:56 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

A first half full of chances for both sides.

Derek Adams' visitors were really trying to have a go at Hearts and had their fair share of opportunities.

Ben Purrington had the ball in the back on the net very early on before it was ruled out for a very tight offside.

Zander Clark was called into action several times throughout the course of the half and made several important saves.

Up the other end, Hearts attempted to test Ross Laidlaw, Frankie Kent and Kyosuke Tagawa with the best chances.

  17. HALF-TIME Motherwell 3-1 Livingstonpublished at 15:54 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

Motherwell have turned on the style against lowly Livingston in the battle at the bottom.

Blair Spittal poked home the opener, assisted by an unselfish Theo Bair, before repaying the favour by setting up Bair for Motherwell's second.

Scott Pittman pulled one back for the visitors with an acrobatic finish, before Bair topped the veteran midfielder's efforts with a tidy solo effort up the other end.

Livingston have failed to win when conceding the opening goal in the Premiership this season and it is looking like a bleak end to 2023 for the bottom side.

  18. HALF-TIME Kilmarnock 0-1 Dundeepublished at 15:52 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

Dundee head into the break with the lead thanks to a fine goal from Luke McCowan.

It's been the one moment of quality in a cagey affair between two sides with top-six aspirations.

There's been plenty of praise for Kilmarnock in recent weeks, but they've now conceded 12 first-half goals in 21 games, only Motherwell (14) have conceded more in the top-flight this season.

  19. HALF-TIME Aberdeen 0-1 St Mirrenpublished at 15:51 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

Aberdeen fans aren't happy. They started and finished the half looking far more likely to score, but they could quite easily be 2-0 down.

Mark O'Hara fired in from close range, his shot deflecting off Slobodan Rubezic and into the net.

He should have made it two. From the spot, he stuttered in a dreadful penalty and sent it two yards wide of goal.

    Hearts 0-0 Ross County

Hearts win themselves a free kick in a very dangerous area just outside the Ross County box.

Alex Cochrane floats it into the box, it looked like it was maybe floating out the other side of the pitch but Ben Purrington gets a nick on it and Hearts have another corner.

The delivery is headed goalward and goes out for yet another corner. The next one is a good delivery and manages to find the head of a maroon shirt but it goes out for a goal kick.
