  2. The world is Bair's oyster - Kettlewellpublished at 18:04 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    FT: Motherwell 3-1 Livingston

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell tells BBC Scotland: "I think how we started the game was fundamental. I thought we started with a real purpose and I felt the players carried out the message to a tee, which sometimes is a little bit of a frustration for me.

"If we are being brutally honest, we had four or five gilt-edged chances. We scored a few but I think we could have been more ahead than what we were. The second half settles down, which is probably not what we all want. But most importantly today was us coming away with three points and giving ourselves a chance to kick and start to move forward in the direction we want.

"There are ups and downs. It was a period where we were not picking up enough results that was much longer than we expected from this football club. We have to take ownership for that and by and large, as a group, we have done.

"I’m fed up saying it, it’s been a bit stop-start for Theo [Bair]. He’s a guy that has all the attributes to be a success in this league. In the first 45 minutes, everyone could see that. He seems to get more criticism than others, in my opinion, but if he performs like he does today then the world is his oyster."

  3. Dundee defeat would have been 'injustice' - Dochertypublished at 18:01 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    FT: Kilmarnock 2-2 Dundee

Dundee manager Tony Docherty tells BBC Scotland: "What a fantastic game of football. I thought it was the proverbial game of two halves.

"You need to credit Kilmarnock, they've got a fantastic home record. Celtic and Rangers come here and can't win.

"I would have been devastated to lose that game. I think we put so much into it that it would have been an injustice.

"To lose the goal so late on and then to have the mentality we've shown all season - away to Kilmarnock, away to Ross County - you can't buy that. You can't coach that. That mentality comes from within.

"I'm glad they got their reward. Believe it or not, they're gutted in there with a point. That's what I want.

"There was a fantastic level of performance in the first half. I'm glad we stood our own. It could be a huge point at the end of the season."

  4. McInnes 'disappointed' with late levellerpublished at 17:58 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    FT: Kilmarnock 2-2 Dundee

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "It was a mammoth effort from everybody. When you score as late as we do, it's automatic to think that's going to be winning goal.

"But it's never over until it's over. Dundee are a huge side and are always a threat from set-pieces. You have to credit them. I thought they were the better side first half.

"We passed up loads of chances. They scored from two shots on target. Huge credit to my players for the spirit they showed. They really do go to the well to get result for us. I think it's harsh on our players.

"Highs and lows, that's the whole thing about today. The crowd helped us. We're just disappointed we've not seen it out. It would have capped off the year for us.

"When you're so close to winning it, it's disappointing, as it was a Dens [earlier in the season]."

It should be stressed that the decision was correct in the end as Abdallah Sima was offside in the build-up.

However, Rangers feel there is a transparency issue.

We've asked the SFA and Sky Sports for comment.

  6. Rangers ask for VAR audiopublished at 17:53 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    FT: Celtic 2-1 Rangers

Rangers have put out the following statement...

"Rangers have asked the Scottish FA to make the VAR audio available to the club to understand why no penalty was awarded despite a clear hand ball by Celtic’s Alastair Johnston.

"The club is keen to understand the process that led to that decision being made as it was not made public at the time, nor communicated to our team.

"We also understand Sky, as the league’s official broadcaster, is deeply unhappy and confused with the situation. Their panel spent half-time in agreement Rangers should have been awarded a penalty, unaware of any offside check.

"Again, this only surfaced in the second half.

"Rangers remain advocates of VAR, but there must be significantly more transparency for it to be successful in Scotland."

  8. 'Nowhere near standard I expect' - Robsonpublished at 17:50 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    FT: Aberdeen 0-3 St Mirren

Aberdeen manager Barry Robson tells BBC Scotland: "Angry. That is nowhere near the standard I expect. I've told the players that. They understand that. The message was clear. We were short all over the pitch, it wasn't good enough.

"We looked off it. We looked slow. We didn't win first or second balls and I'm angry. It's not often I'm angry with them. They need to come back fighting and perform for the fans.

"I'm always going to be under pressure in this job. I'm alright with that, that's fine. I enjoy being here, we've had some success since we've been here, we've had some disappointments. We need to keep going.

"We've done it before, we know we can do it. The next game is always the most important. It's a big football club, you have to win games, and our league form hasn't be right. We need to win the next game."

  9. Robinson hails 'clinical' St Mirrenpublished at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    FT: Aberdeen 0-3 St Mirren

    Stephen RobinsonImage source, SNS

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: "It's been coming, we've put those kind of performances in the last six games and not had our rewards. We took our chances when they came, we were really disciplined defensively.

"The big difference for me was how we defended set-plays really well. Aberdeen are a big threat, they have super delivery from Leighton Clarkson, but our organisation was fantastic.

"We have to be clinical. We got beat by a Kilmarnock side who were clinical through the week. We looked at the statistics, we knew we were playing well.

"When you don't concede silly goals, you'll get opportunities and we were clinical today.

"We can't win every week. We have a few injuries now which will test us before Celtic, but there's a lot of belief, talent and work ethic in this group."

    FT: Celtic 2-1 Rangers

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Celtic really need that. They were under huge pressure if Rangers had won this game with the games they have in hand.

They would have been very concerned. However, over the piece, Celtic were probably the better side.

A number of things went in their favour, but those two goals they scored were brilliant quality.

They should have been cruising after that, but they never quite got there. However, at the end of the game, the scoreline shows 2-1.

It didn't disappoint - another cracker.

    Table

This is how the Premiership table will look at the bells.

Celtic are now eight points clear but have played two games more than Rangers.

Motherwell's first win in about 40 years somehow sends them up to eighth, while Livingston are now six points adrift.

A tally of 19 points from 17 games isn't good enough for Aberdeen, who continue to languish in the bottom half.

This moment at Tynecastle is causing debate in the Sportsound studio.

Tom English has just labelled the decision "shocking" as Alan Forrest rounded Ross Laidlaw before taking a booking for what the referee felt was a dive.

VAR didn't intervene to overrule the call. Replays appear to show the County keeper making contact with Forrest.

  16. 'Kyogo made difference at Celtic Park'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    FT: Celtic 2-1 Rangers

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Every goal scored today deserves to win a derby. They were all crackers.

But Kyogo, when the ball fell to him, that was the crucial moment. About 20 yards out, just drops his shoulder and curled the ball with power right into the top corner - it's unstoppable.

Quality strikers sometimes make a difference and Kyogo last season was a lot of times the difference for Celtic, but once again he has done it against Rangers.

That one moment of genius was worth coming along for.
