We at Liverpool have had as many if not more players injured or absent because of international tournaments. It depends on player investment. Newcastle haven't invested enough simple as that.

Blatant offside. The play on for a while rule is so stupid you wonder who thinks of these changes? Someone will seriously get injured.

Off goes Ederson and on comes Stefan Ortega, who will be pleased to be coming on with his side not a goal down.

Oh almost a calamity at the back there as Ederson hits a clearance into a Manchester City player but Anthony Gordon is unable to turn into the net.

Ederson sits back down, he can't continue.

Stefan Ortega is warming up but Ederson is able to get back up to his feet and looks like he might be OK to continue.

    He isn't moving 100%, however.

Injuries and a congested fixture list are a legitimate reason for Newcastle’s poor run. I defy any club to have lost five usual starters from their line up and continue to perform well.

There is absolutely no way that is deliberate on the goalkeeper. You have to go for that.

The injury issue is real. Yes the first team is nearly full strength but there is nothing on the bench hence the players being unchanged and exhausted.

When you're leaving the flag down then it can result in injuries. VAR are looking at that collision.

A let off in terms of not conceding for Manchester City but the concern for them now is Ederson is down injured as he tried to keep out that strike.

  12. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 4 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Man City

Newcastle have an early goal ruled out as they appear to beat the offside trap and Sean Longstaff turns in Alexander Isak's cross.

VAR checks and the on field decision stands, but that was close.

That's a big scoreline prediction but these encounters do seem to be high-scoring ones, with the last four games between the two seeing 21 goals scored.

Nufc 2 - City 6. It’s got that feel! Toons defence are weakened and look nervous without Pope in goal. Burn on a bad run. Tripps looks every one of his 33 years. Botman working back to fitness. To top it Isak looks like he’s never seen a football before!

Can Newcastle and especially Howe stop with the injury excuse. The team is only three players different from the one that beat Aston Villa 5-1 and one of those players isn’t injured, he's banned from playing.

Manchester City have conceded the first goal in six of their last eight away Premier League matches (W3 L3), doing so in their last two but coming back to win in both.

Only three teams have conceded first and won three away games in a row: Leeds United in October 1999, Tottenham Hotspur in December 2013 and Man Utd in December 2020 (a run of six).

Toon to score first, for City to do better their usual, customary selves and win 2-1 in the second half.
