  5. Post update

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

A piper leads out the sides at Anslie Park.

Looks a cracking crowd in the capital. Buzzing for this one.

  6. 'Shankland absence gives Spartans lift'

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

    James McFadden

Former Scotland forward on BBC One Scotland

You can read into it whatever you want.

Would it cup-tie Lawrence Shankland if he played today? Is that something?

His absence certainly gives The Spartans a lift.

  7. Private viewing

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

No need for a ticket when you've got one of the flats overlooking Anslie Park.

Wonder how much you you could get for renting out one of those gaffs this afternoon.

  8. Naismith allays Hearts fans fears over missing Shankland

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

    NAISMITH

On missing Lawrence Shankland, who is absent through illness, Hearts boss Steven Naismith tells BBC Scotland: "Last few days he's been ill and he hasn't been in the building since Tuesday or Wednesday.

"The medical team's advice has been to stay away. I'm confident with the team we've got we can put Spartans under pressure.

"We've got a busy week so we'll see how [his fitness] plays out [before Dundee on Tuesday].

On the returning Craig Gordon: "His injury was a significant one. He's had a really good period now. He's had games behind closed doors. He's a good player to have back."

  9. 'No point me standing here if I didn't believe' - Samuel

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

    Samuel

Spartans manager Dougie Samuel tells BBC Scotland: "I think this is probably the biggest occasion we've ever hosted.

"It's a special day for everyone in the Spartans family. There's no doubt there's been special buzz around the place since the draw was made.

"I think you try and prepare your team as best you can. For me, it always starts with how you score a goal."

Asked if they can pull off a shock: "Of course, why would I be standing in front of you? There's enough cases in history of your Auchinlecks or your Darvels. There'd be no point in me standing here if I didn't believe.

"But I'm not stupid. I've said all week Hearts win this game 95 times out of 100. What we don't know is that if in a couple of hours time, it's going to be one of the five."

  10. Promotion party

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

Well all know breaking into the SPFL doesn't come without its hurdles.

Not only did Spartans have to win the Lowland League last year (at a canter btw), but they also had to navigate those tricky promotion play-offs.

They did well to prevail over Highland League champions Brechin City, before coming up against Albion Rovers in the final.

Usually, the confidence-filled non-league side are heavy favourites over a downbeat club 42. Rovers were still heavily tipped due to their strong end to the season, but it was the Spartans who came out on top.

As captain Kevin Waugh told me earlier this week, a few days of "carnage" followed. Good on them.

  11. 'Surprised Gordon starts'

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

    Shelley Kerr

Former Scotland head coach on BBC Scotland

I'm surprised Craig Gordon's starting today on this artificial surface.

I think I'd look at starting him on grass on his first game back.

  12. He's back

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

    392 days.

It's been a long journey back for Craig Gordon after that double leg break on Christmas Eve 2022.

He's been ready to go for a while, but Zander Clark's brilliant form has meant the 41-year-old hasn't had a sniff up to now.

Regardless of allegiances, it's great to see the Scotland international back with the Euros on the horizon this summer.

  13. The SPFL's longest serving gaffer

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

Longevity in football is scarce these days, but Spartans gaffer Dougie Samuel is quite the exception.

He took the job on in June 2012, and having led the Edinburgh club to their long-pursued goal of the SPFL, is now the longest serving manager in the top four division by a country mile.

In fact, he's been in charge at Anslie Park for about half my lifetime. Good going, sir.

  15. Still ill

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

Beyond me shoehorning a Smiths song into a headline, there will be plenty of chatter around Anslie Park about the absence of Lawrence Shankland.

Steven Naismith has said the striker is struggling with illness, and with three games in a week, doesn't want to risk him.

I'm sure that'll be the end of the chat about that...

  16. Hearts-daft Spartans captain out to upset heroes

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

Captaining your team against your heroes in the Scottish Cup. Some buzz, that.

Earlier this week, I caught up with Spartans skipper Kevin Waugh to hear about his reaction to the draw, coming up against his heroes, and getting abuse off his pals.

You can have a read here, or watch the lovely video our talented team have put together below.

  17. Where's the remote?

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

Time to stick the telly on.

Our coverage is live on BBC One Scotland, as Steven Thompson is joined by former Hearts player Michael Stewart and former Spartans Women manager Shelley Kerr.

    Get yourself comfy.

  18. Edinburgh derby with a difference

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

It's maybe not the Edinburgh Derby, but it's certainly a Edinburgh derby.

Fewer than four miles seperate Tynecastle Park in Gorgie and Anslie Park in Pilton.

Hearts season ticket holders usually get half price entry to Spartans' league games. There may be a few split loyalties in the capital this afternoon.

  19. About last night...

    Clyde 0-2 Aberdeen (Fri)

Aberdeen managed to avoid another Darvel last night.

The Dons are the first team through to the last 16 after dispatching fourth-tier Clyde.

You can watch the best of it by hitting that play button.

  20. No Shankland, Gordon returns

    The Spartans v Hearts (12:15)

There's no Lawrence Shankland in the Hearts line-up, but down the other end, Craig Gordon is finally back in between the sticks.

It looks like a 3-4-3 for the visitors, with Yutaro Oda, Kenneth Vargas and Kyosuke Tagawa given a chance to prove their worth at the top end of the park.

Alan Forrest starts in the same week he signed a new deal at Tynecastle.
