The Rangers midfield win it on the counter, and Scott Wright squeezes it through to Todd Cantwell. The ball isn't the best though, and Cantwell has to stretch and can only divert it a yard or two wide.

'We shall not be moved' is the cry from the Rangers support.

They were just beginning to show a little nervousness given the way this was going but that evaporated entirely with Diomande's wonderful strike.

It's such an important goal for the new signing who has immediately endeared himself to the away crowd.

St Johnstone now face a conundrum. The game plan was working but now they need to generate some threat.

Amazing technique, Dimitar Mitov has no chance.

That is the only real bit of quality we have seen in the game since it's started.

From nothing, Diomande slams one in from 25 yards on his weaker right foot.

Ryan McGowan had nicked the ball away from Fabio Silva, but it fell to Diomande who took one touch to set, and another to stroke into the bottom corner.

No chance for Dimitar Mitov. The first bit of attacking quality we've seen.

This time, David Keltjens is booked for a challenge on the halfway line. The wing-back was on the stretch and sent Todd Cantwell flying.

The replay shows that was a sore one, with Cantwell's knee jarring. He's back on his feet after some treatment.

This is where Rangers need to be a little bit patient.

St Johnstone have been brilliant so far. If you're picking the bones out of it they could get forward a little bit better but Rangers haven't tested the St Johnstone goal at all.

It's been a poor game really, since kick-off.

Adama Sidibeh and Connor Smith combine to win a throw deep in the Rangers half.

Andy Considine winds one up. Mohamed Diomande's header is poor and it allows Sidibeh the chance to volley - but he completely fluffs it. Rangers try to break but it's well broken up.

St Johnstone look fairly comfortable so far. The back three of McGowan, Gordon and Considine have dealt with everything that's come their way.

Dan Phillips is looking particularly composed in the middle, picking out a good pass whenever he has the chance.

Craig Levein will certainly be the happier manager.

Oscar Cortes wins his side a corner after the Colombian controls John Lundstram's arrowed ball brilliantly. Ryan McGowan got back and made the crucial block - although he thinks the last touch came off Cortes.

Borna Barisic takes the corner, but it's well dealt with.

His side have defended well, have looked composed on the ball and look up for this test.

Rangers are just beginning to exert some pressure though without directly testing Dimitar Mitov in goal.

St Johnstone have defended really well.

I don't think Rangers have had many touches inside their penalty box so credit to St Johnstone for the way they've started the game.

James Tavernier has plenty of options and clips it onto the edge of the six yard box... headed away again. The ball is eventually worked back into the box and Fabio Silva cuts it back.

St Johnstone just about get it away. First real spell of Rangers pressure.

Todd Cantwell catches Graham Carey in midfield and concedes a foul. A chance for the hosts to launch this ball into the box. Matt Smith will take.

In it comes, and Connor Goldson heads it clear. Still no saves for either keeper to make.

Craig Levein said pre-match that St Johnstone would try and play when they had their foot on the ball. They did that for the last minute or so, knocking it about nicely in the midfield - but then David Keltjens was sold short and conceded a foul.

That's a warning from Matthew McDermid. Next one's a booking.

The manager is very good, he has made such a difference but it just shows you the players he has are all engaged, they are all pulling in the direction of what he wants them to do.

Oscar Cortes draws a foul on the near side of the halfway line. The visitors have controlled possession so far, but all Mitov has had to do so far is collect a cross.

Rangers going a bit more direct in the early stages, but Fabio Silva strays offside.

The sun is shining right into Saints keeper Dimitar Mitov's eyes. I wonder if Rangers will try and take advantage of that in the opening stages.
