This will be just the third time Chelsea have played a Women’s Super League game on a Friday after a 0-0 draw with Arsenal in February 2022 and a 1-0 loss to Manchester City at Kingsmeadow last month. The Gunners meanwhile are unbeaten in six previous WSL games played on a Friday (W4 D2).

  7. 'Less talk, more action'published at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March

    Chelsea v Arsenal (19:00 GMT)

Erin Cuthbert says Chelsea might "still win absolutely nothing" and there has to be "less talk, more action" if they want to achieve the quadruple.

The Women's Super League champions take on title rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge tonight.

They will meet again in the League Cup final, while Chelsea are also chasing Champions League and FA Cup success.

"The quadruple... wow, that's mad," said midfielder Cuthbert, who has won five WSL titles with Chelsea.

"But [manager] Emma Hayes put all the trophies up before and also a blank screen - we either win nothing or we go on and be great.

"It's all well and good talking about a potential quadruple but we're at the point where we can still win absolutely nothing. I think the main message is less talk, more action.

"We have to do our talking on the pitch and make sure that when the big moments come, we're ready."

  8. 'We're used to being chased'published at 18:52 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March

    Chelsea v Arsenal (19:00 GMT)

Chelsea are the team being chased in the Women's Super League again but it does not seem to faze them.

Germany international Melanie Leupolz has won the title in each season since she joined the club from Bayern Munich and she knows the only thing that matters is who is sitting top of the table in May.

"We are used to that situation. I don't really look at the table, to be honest," Leupolz told BBC Sport.

"The league is so tight. You have to win every single game so it doesn't matter who's on top of the league during the season - only who is on top at the end.

"We are pretty comfortable with that. In the last couple of years we have always been top at the end of the season."

Chelsea lead the Women's Super League, but it's Arsenal who came out on top the last time these two faced.

  11. Arsenal win 'could really flip things'published at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March

    Chelsea v Arsenal (19:00 GMT)

    Ellen White
Former England striker on the Women's Football Weekly podcast

It’s huge, If Arsenal win they’ve closed that gap on Chelsea. To gain those three points and be in an incredible position for Arsenal.

It could really flip things up. We want every game to be exciting, not sure what will happen, go down to the wire. We don’t want one team to run off and it be so obvious who’s going to win.

You want that competitiveness. I feel every game is a real challenge for each team now which is really exciting.

  12. 'What we’ve done in the past doesn’t count for anything'published at 18:44 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March

    Chelsea v Arsenal (19:00 GMT)

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall speaking to Sky Sports: "We’re prepared well. I have a lot of trust in my players and we’ve been showing that a lot during this season that we are able rise to the occasions. But what we’ve done in the past doesn’t count for anything so we have to do it again tonight. I’m full of trust in our ability to do so."

On what will decide the game: "This is football. What’s going to decide is going to be maybe a detail, maybe a margin. We don’t know beforehand which. Play the first kick of the game as if it’s the game-deciding factor and play the last game as it is. Don’t leave anything to the chance. That’s going to increase your chances of winning the most."

On what his decision to start Stina Blackstenius over Alessia Russo tells us: "I’m fortunate in getting to choose from many good football players that can start the game but also can finish the game for us. We have an idea about what we need at the start and the end. We have a good squad and my intention is to use it.

"Too many times it’s only emphasis on who starts the game. It’s going to be important that we manage the game in the second half as well and we put the right qualities on the pitch."

  13. 'This is the most exciting and most difficult to call title race'published at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March

    Chelsea v Arsenal (19:00 GMT)

    Anita Asante
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Every season I say this is the most exciting title race but I genuinely believe this is the most exciting and most difficult to call in all honesty.

Chelsea are on for the potential quadruple and we know that she [Emma Hayes] has said they could either win everything or win nothing. That’s what she has presented to her players. They know there is a lot riding on this fixture tonight.

If Arsenal win today then it really opens up the title race and it’s a three-way chase. They still have Man City to play as well so they know today it’s really in their hands in terms of leading the charge.

In the reverse fixture they won 4-1 so they have that psychological potential edge as well. But as we know despite having a depleted squad Chelsea have found so many ways to win difficult matches.

  14. 'Chelsea really believe in the women's team'published at 18:38 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March

    Chelsea v Arsenal (19:00 GMT)

Defender Nathalie Bjorn joined Chelsea from Everton in January, and she says that it is "like a dream" to play for the Women's Super League leaders.

She told BBC Sport that the club "really believes" in the women's team and others "should take after" them.

  15. 'Every single one of our players are ready'published at 18:35 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March

    Chelsea v Arsenal (19:00 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes speaking to Sky Sports: "It is just another game regardless of the fact it’s a derby game. The most important thing from my perspective is we show the things I know we are known for. I want to see them when they matter in a game where there is a lot at stake. The team know what is required of us and I look forward to watching them perform.

"When the players cross the white line there is no denying there’s 11 v 11 and as far as I’m concerned, the way we show up, how we present ourselves and how we approach the game absolutely matters and I believe every single one of our players are ready for it."

On if she will use the emotion of her final WSL game at Stamford Bridge and final WSL game against Arsenal: "I hope so. I hope that we use the crowd. We have to create the noise, we have to give them something to get excited about."

On if Lauren James has fully recovered from illness: "She’s good, she’s ready to go. She’s had her hair done and is ready for the crowd."

  16. Can Gunners close the gap?published at 18:33 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March

    Chelsea v Arsenal (19:00 GMT)

Tonight could be make or break for Arsenal.

They trail leaders Chelsea by just three points - win and they're level, lose and they slip even further behind.

Just seven games remain of the Women's Super League season and every point could be pivotal. Manchester City are also in the mix - and would likely benefit from an Arsenal win - but tonight's is the Gunners' best chance to ensure they remain in the mix at the top.

    Vivianne Miedema
Netherlands forward on the Women's Football Weekly podcast

The girls are confident. They have got right to be. We had a weekend off which after a busy national team period and some games after that [was] needed.

We all know and we all realise how important that game is on Friday. I’d be very disappointed if they aren’t ready and up for it but I’m sure they will be. It’s a six-point game. If we lose we’re six points behind which is going to be extremely tough and probably not doable. If we beat Chelsea, we still play Man City away. Everything is to play for.
