A rare spell of Real Madrid passing the ball about in the Real Sociedad half now. It is closer to the halfway line than the final third but that's progress from a very quiet start by the visitors.

A quick break by Real Sociedad and the ball is worked into the box for Mikel Oyarzabal, who goes down under a challenge by Fran Garcia. Home players look to the referee but nothing is given. I think they had a bit of a case for one there.

Real Sociedad have had 65% possession, compared to just 35% for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have a couple of corners to defend, which they do successfully, but still we wait for an attack of note from the visitors. Their forwards are practically spectators at the moment.

Great run through the middle by Ander Barrenetxea and he works the ball out to Takefusa Kubo, whose first-time drive is pushed behind by Kepa.

Real Sociedad are continuing to ask all the questions.

Luka Modric just lost the ball, emphasising that Real Madrid are not quite on it yet.

Great footwork from Benat Turrientes to evade some challenges on the edge of the area. He tees up Ander Barrenetxea, who blazes high over the goal.

Intrigued to see what Arda Guler can do on his first start, but he's not had much chance to make an impression with much of the play in Real Madrid's half in this opening 10 minutes.

We're still yet to see anything from Real Madrid really. The hosts are retaining the ball well and causing problems down the left as Javi Galan again gets another dangerous cross in but Takefusa Kubo can't connect at the far post.

As expected Real Madrid made a raft of changes for this game and they are taking a while to settle as the hosts find a gap in the defence, but Takefusa Kubo is unable to take the ball in his stride, allowing the Madrid back line to get back in shape.

Bright start by Real Sociedad as they attack down the left before Javi Galan's dangerous ball in is pushed away by Kepa.

Joselu is needing some early treatment after taking a hit to the head, but he's OK to continue after a couple of minutes.

It has been a very good April for Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid so far. They knocked Manchester City out of the Champions League and beat rivals Barcelona 3-2 in La Liga last weekend.

There's no time to rest, however, because after this game their attention turns to a trip to Bayern Munich next Tuesday for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie.

With six games remaining and an 11-point advantage - which could become 14 tonight - Real Madrid are closing in on the La Liga title.

Tonight they head to a Real Sociedad side who have targets on their own, however. They are sixth and in the hunt for a Europa League spot.
