Kevin Magnussen moves fourth, but he's bumped down a place by McLaren team-mate Jenson Button. The gap is just 0.023 seconds. It's been so close between the pair all weekend.
Anna Baker, external: Hoping Daniel Ricciardo does a better job of qualifying than he has on his facial hair.
Lotus's Romain Grosjean on 5 live, who qualified 18th and last: "It's a disaster. The car never had anything to give me."
Nico Rosberg goes quickest with a 1:37.099, with Fernando Alonso slotting into second, 0.911 seconds further back. Lewis Hamilton doesn't set the timesheets alight, but his lap of 1:37.287 is good enough for second. Both Mercedes drivers should comfortably get through to Q3 with those times.
Valtteri Bottas sets the early pace with a 1:38.094, with Kimi Raikkonen slotting into second three tenths adrift.
Lewis Hamilton is reminded that the tyres he is on could be his race set. What he means is that the set of tyres that drivers use to set their quickest time in this session will be the set they start the race on, so they understandably don't want to take too much life out of the rubber.
Another four drivers will get the boot at the end of this session, leaving 10 to fight it out for pole. Here we go...
Kevin Magnussen and Daniil Kvyat (pictured) remain the only drivers in the current entry never to have failed to make it through from Q1 to Q2.
Nico Rosberg's run on the soft tyres was unspectacular and he ended up fourth, 1.1 seconds behind his team-mate and title rival Lewis Hamilton.
Impressive from Sauber's Adrian Sutil and Lotus' Pastor Maldonado to make it through to Q2.

Lewis Hamilton finishes fastest in the first part of qualifying for the United States Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton goes quickest with a 1:37.196, 0.681 seconds ahead of Williams' Felipe Massa with Valtteri Bottas a further three tenths off the pace.
One minute to go. Jean-Eric Vergne, Esteban Gutierrez, Sebastian Vettel and Romain Grosjean are in the drop zone.
Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have both gone out on a set of soft tyres. Interesting considering they comfortably occupy the top two spots on the timesheets.
Kevin Magnussen pops into third in the McLaren. Great effort from the Dane. Pastor Maldonado is looking strong, too - and it's not often I've been able to say that this season. The Lotus driver is currently seventh.
Here's the order with five minutes remaining:

Nico Rosberg improves, clocking a 1:38.303 to move half a second clear of team-mate Lewis Hamilton, who is still in the pits.
Lewis Hamilton reports a "big flat spot" adding "I can't continue". The Mercedes driver backs right off and retreats to the pit lane.
