"I just had sheer faith, messages from people and fans sending me stuff," says Lewis Hamilton. "I met someone in Washington who said I'd do it. We win together and lose together and many people have boosted me. I knew I could not give up on them.
"Nico has been a rival for the last two years and stepped up his game this year. I was thinking if any of the cars were to stop it would be mine. That's naturally what goes into your mind when you are in bed. But I went for a run to clear my mind.
"I never imagined this. When I met Ron aged 10 I wanted to be a world champion but never looked beyond on that.
"I was grateful for the one but I did not know. So many other things could affect the result but I just kept faith and said my prayers every day. This is a real platform to inspire people."
"It doesn't register with me," says Lewis Hamilton when he is told he joins Sir Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark and Graham Hill as the only Britons to win more than one F1 title. "It doesn't feel real. I had no idea how it would go.
"I woke up so early - 6am and I was thinking I had forever for the race. I knew anything could happen. I'm so happy for the energy people gave me, that made the difference.
"Today I don't know how but compared to 2008 I was so much more relaxed. I hoped that was a positive - and it was. I felt so composed.
"I wanted to battle to the end but will take what we had. Nico put on an incredible charge and I'm grateful I had a good battle."

"At the end we are living for the fans who are living for motor sport," says Mercedes chairman Dieter Zetsche. "We lose it if we give team orders. Ultimately it was great for the sport that they could fight it out.

Niki Lauda insists that Mercedes will extend Lewis Hamilton's contract for "more years". The Briton's contract expires at the end of next season.
This was the first race this year that Nico Rosberg has crossed the line in a position other than first or second. The German was 14th today after a power issue with his Mercedes.
"So many people have put together a car of such dominance we could never have imagined," says Mercedes co-team boss Paddy Lowe.
