Jolyon Palmer can't get himself any higher up the grid he is out. As he comes in, a mechanic from another team has to quickly jog out of his way as Palmer approaches the Renault garage. All a bit chaotic.

Kevin Magnussen is the first man out in Q2 and what a start to his career as a fully fledged F1 driver by Jolyon Palmer. The Briton has out qualifed his more experienced team-mate.

No surprise that the Manors finished bottom, but a bit of a surprise that Rio Haryanto out qualified Pascal Wehrlein - the man who has been touted as potentially next big thing in F1.

Right, I'm just trying to get my head around this, is it right that Jolyon Palmer had that bit extra time to get a lap in, with the 90 seconds counting down and then he and the rest of the drivers able to complete their laps if still on the track. Seems a tad unfair on, say Felipe Nasr?

  15. ELIMINATED - Ericssonpublished at 06:18 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2016

Marcus Ericsson hasn't done enough so he is out, the final driver to be eliminated at the end of Q1.

Phew, have I got time for a lie down?

Scrap that, with this being the end of Q1, drivers on the track can finish their laps. Jolyon Palmer improves so Marcus Ericsson is the man in danger.

  17. ELIMINATED - Nasrpublished at 06:15 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2016

As expected, Felipe Nasr didn't have enough time and he is out. A few teams are misjudging when to get out. The same is about to happen for Jolyon Palmer.

  18. ELIMINATED - Kvyatpublished at 06:13 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2016

The next round of 90 seconds isn't up but Daniil Kvyat, 18th on the timesheet, isn't even going to try and improve. He is out of his car and in the Red Bull garage.

Next in trouble is Felipe Nasr, and it looks like he hasn't given himself enough time to get a lap in.

  20. ELIMINATED - Gutierrezpublished at 06:11 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2016

No improvement from Esteban Gutierrez. He was on a good lap that might have been enough but ran out of time and he is out.

What's this? Fernando Alonso goes second fastest, clocking 1:26.537 while Jenson Button is fourth fastest. Great scenes!
