Esteban Ocon, after his Manor went kaput, has had to walk around the track back to the paddock entrance.

Apparently security didn't recognise him and he had trouble getting through without his pass.

Should have put it in your glovebox, Esteban.

That seems to be the qualifying simulations done.

Half an hour left and it's Lewis Hamilton out in front - 0.2secs quicker than Nico Rosberg. The Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen occupy P3 and P4 - but they're half a second down on Hamilton.

"Nico, you need to follow the warning lights on your dashboard please," comes the message from Mercedes to Nico Rosberg.

I've been ignoring the little orange engine light on my Ford Mondeo for the past nine months and I'm fine.

    Crack on, Nico.

Have you ever lost a world championship in the final seconds of the final lap of the final race of the season?

    No. Neither have I.

But, if I did, I doubt I'd be able to raise a celebratory fist in the air.

In 2008, Felipe Massa won the Brazillian GP and, for a few moments, it looked like he had sealed the title. But Lewis Hamilton went past Timo Glock on the final turn and snatched the crown by one point.

Massa may not have looked delighted, but he it's a measure of the man that he got on that podium and still revelled in the win.

Fernando Alonso is being wheeled towards the McLaren garage after getting stranded at the end of the pit-lane with a clutch problem. It has been a couple of hours since the McLaren has had an issue, so we were due one.

Neither Red Bull has gone out on the super-softs this session, yet Daniel Ricciardo is up in P5 with Max Verstappen just behind and they've only slipped on the softs so far.

Paul Eaton: I believe Wherlein will replace Massa. Williams seems to be going backwards so Perez and Button will say no to them.

Willem Kranendonk: Totally Crazy idea but what about Alex Rossi? Indy500 winner, and is a good PR tool. Probably Biased though 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Kayleigh: Can we pop Alex Lynn in the empty @WilliamsRacing seat?

English Atheist: Button in a Williams IF McLaren are daft enough to give his seat to Werlhein

Safety staff are trying to push Ocon's Manor across the grass. It's hard going.

I have enough trouble pushing a pram on grass, let alone a car.

No clue as to what caused the Manor to seize up. Ocon came out of the corner and flumpf - the power went.

There's a limp Manor stationary on the side of the track - it contains Esteban Ocon and it brings out the yellow flag.

It may be a gruesome memory. but the sheer fortitude of Felipe Massa to get back into a car after his dice with death in Hungary in 2009 was remarkable.

A rogue spring from Rubens Barichello's Brawn penetrated his helmet and knocked him unconscious.

It ended his season, but not his career.

"I don't think these tyres will do another lap," says Lewis Hamilton on the radio as he heads back to the Mercedes garage.

That was pretty much an out lap, a quick lap and an in lap on those super softs.

  20. 'Williams would love to have Button'published at 13:20 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

    Tom Clarkson
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

Williams would love to have Jenson Button in the car. I think they'd see his experience as useful with the new regulations. Plus there's the marketing side of him.

Whether he would go there is another matter and the feeling is he is holding out for a McLaren seat. Personally I'd love to see Willians invest in the future.

Do they take a punt on an Alex Lynn or a Lance Stroll?
