Alex Shcnopple: If Button keeps this great start going and reaches seventh or eighth after final flag, he should be considered for Driver of Day.

  2. No warning before car failure - Verstappenpublished at 21:33 British Summer Time 23 October 2016

    BBC Radio 5 live

Max Verstappen has just been talking to BBC Radio 5 live. He says: "The start was OK, we were starting on the soft (tyres), so had less grip, then we had too much front wing and we fixed it and it was going well.

"I got past Raikkonen, and I enjoyed it and the pace was good and feeling fine.

"Then the pit stop was my misunderstanding - I thought they boxed me - but luckily for me my retirement means I can't blame myself too much.

"I didn't get a warning (on why his car failed) as soon as I exited turn 11 I heard a noise, and I had to park the car."

  3. Lap 50/56published at 21:33 British Summer Time 23 October 2016

Six laps to go and Nico Rosberg is chipping away at Lewis Hamilton's advantage. Rosberg is a second quicker than his team-mate after their latest laps.

A close finish on the cards, or is Hamilton playing it safe and not putting too much on his tyres or engine?

Chris Lord: Ericcson to sneak a point? P11, Wehrlein had Perez retire on last lap for his P10. Would be great for all teams to have at least a point.

  7. Lap 47/56published at 21:28 British Summer Time 23 October 2016

Felipe Massa might have to forget about Carlos Sainz for now because Fernando Alonso is right behind him, waiting for the moment to pounce. Half a second between the two.

    Lap 46/56

    1) Hamilton (+10s) 2) Rosberg 3) Ricciardo 4) Vettel 5) Sainz 6) Massa 7) Alonso 8) Perez 9) Button 10) Grosjean

  9. Lap 45/56published at 21:25 British Summer Time 23 October 2016

The battle for fifth is the most interesting inside the top 10 at the moment. Carlos Sainz has that position at the moment but Felipe Massa is right behind him. Closing in on the pair like like a shark circling its prey is Fernando Alonso.

  10. 'Dominated'published at 21:24 British Summer Time 23 October 2016

There has been a lot of negativity about Lewis Hamilton, especially in the press back home, because of non-racing things, but he has come here with a positive demeanour.

He is very popular with the US media, he knows a lot of the celebrities that are here and has dominated this United States Grand Prix since qualifying.

"Keep me advised on Rosberg's lap. I would love to catch him."

  13. Lap 43/56published at 21:21 British Summer Time 23 October 2016

Nico Rosberg has a nibble at Lewis Hamilton's lead, bringing it down to 9.3 seconds but immediately loses that by locking up at Turn Two.

Still, he will be pretty happy with where he is. He can afford to finish second to Lewis Hamilton in all the remaining races and still win the championship.

Adeel Ejaz: So not only Max didn't finish fourth, he parks at odd place and ends up causing a VSC which makes Ricciardo lose position.

Sho Rahman: Nico will take 2nd. He knows what the biggest picture is.

A great race for McLaren at the moment. Both of their drivers are in the top 10.

Being behind the Renaults must seem like a long time ago for Fernando Alonso.

  17. Lap 40/56published at 21:18 British Summer Time 23 October 2016

Carlos Sainz is up to fifth following Kimi Raikkonen's retirement but he's got some defending to do with Felipe Massa right on his tail.

Back on the circuit Lewis Hamilton is sailing towards victory at the moment as he still leads Nico Rosberg by 10 seconds.

Message from race control says Ferrari are under investigation for an unsafe release as a result of that bizarre Kimi Raikkonen incident.

  20. Lap 38/56published at 21:15 British Summer Time 23 October 2016

Kimi Raikkonen parks up, gets out of the car and shakes his head in frustration before taking a look at his left rear. No Ferrari mechanics are there to meet, probably a bit afraid of his reaction! What an odd retirement.
