Image source, .Not that I've been counting or anything, but it's been 116 days, nine hours and 53 minutes since the chequered flag was waved at the final race of last season in Abu Dhabi, confirming Nico Rosberg as the world champion.
Of course, Rosberg has decided to give defending his title a miss in favour of galavanting around the world, hanging off rocks,, externalhanging out with celebrities, external and shopping for baby clothes, so it means someone else will be crowned champion this year.
Most people would probably expect that to be Lewis Hamilton, but Red Bull should be strong again and Ferrari looked to have closed the gap in testing. How much by? We shall see...

Image source, Getty ImagesThere were hot-air balloons in the blue and lace-white sky over Melbourne this morning, which as a metaphor for the hopes of a good Formula 1 season is not a bad one.
The sense is that Ferrari and Mercedes are set for a titanic battle, with Red Bull perhaps not quite there yet, but likely to become progressively stronger as the season moves on. Of course, there is the inevitable sense of caution - how could there not be after three seasons of such dominance by Mercedes - but at least in testing the Ferrari appeared to be genuinely competitive.
“Every year your goal is to beat everyone and the more of a fight you have the more satisfying it is when you are victorious,” Lewis Hamilton said on Thursday. “We are up for a challenge, up for a fight, and that’s what I prepare for. I think it’s not a bad thing for the sport.”

Why? Because Formula 1 is back! And back boasting the biggest rule changes for almost a decade.
The cars are sexier, faster and more aerodynamic as the sport looks to shake things up after three years of Mercedes dominance.
Will it work? Or will Mercedes swiftly disappear into the distance once again? Things should start to become pretty clear pretty quickly, starting with this weekend's season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
