No, not the start of a Norwegian commentator-style rant, just a quick breakdown of the five men who can claim to have held the outright record for pole positions in Formula 1.

It's about as stellar a line-up as you could wish to assemble, and today Lewis Hamilton could join them by claiming pole number 69 of his career.

But it's a long way from a given. Rain is falling at Monza and the qualifying hour could be very eventful, if it gets under way at all.

    Thirty minutes to go.

We're going to park this live page under a dripping canopy for a while.

We'll be back with you at 12:30 BST for qualifying, when, let's not forget, Lewis Hamilton will be gunning for a record 69th career pole position.

I'll leave you with one of the many fine poems you've sent in so far today. This is from David Semeria‏:

    Lap after lap

    Mile after mile

    The crowd did await

    For Kimi to smile.

This circuit is still incredibly wet. If it got worse, qualifying will be delayed, potentially until tomorrow.

However, the weather is supposed to improve from here. I certainly hope we don't see a dry qualifying. This Italian Grand Prix will benefit from a wet or drying track.

Interesting graphic showing how the top speeds of these cars are compromised in these conditions.

The Ferraris come into the pits so there are no improvements at the end of the session.

Felipe Massa ends the session quickest for Williams, but with just seven drivers setting a time there is nothing to be read into that.

All eyes now switch to the qualifying hour, starting at 13:00 BST. Will the rain abate by then? If it doesn't, it could be a very interesting session.

Felipe Massa puts his Williams at the top of the order, a 1:40.660. Team-mate Lance Stroll makes it a one-two for the Grove-based squad with a time a couple of tenths slower.

Still around 19 seconds off yesterday's dry pace.

A lot can happen to a tyre in the wet - if you lock up and go off the track you can pick up all sorts of cuts and nicks from the gravel.

We don't see this full wet tyre a lot but everybody is running on it at the moment.

Lewis Hamilton has not been in a hurry to head out in these conditions (dashing off another ditty, perhaps?)

But he's strapped in and heading out there now.

All the drivers have now done at least an installation lap.
