Stoffel Vandoorne is fastest so far in the McLaren. But he was using the hyper-soft tyre - and the softest anyone else has run is the super-soft, two grades harder - so it is unclear how much can be read into that. There is no accurate information yet for the off-set between the tyres but the gap between the hyper-soft and the medium, would be expected to be at least two seconds - and Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes on the medium is only 0.1secs off the McLaren.
The wider question is why McLaren are spending so much time on the hyper-soft - a tyre that will only be used at a few races this year and certainly not at Barcelona.
Racing director Eric Boullier said: "Just because tyre models predicted that if it is too cold this is the only tyre that you can work with. Everyone tried soft, super soft, or hyper soft or whatever, and the one that also works very well is medium tyres."
But that still raises the question of why only McLaren are doing it. Cynics are wondering whether they are trying to disguise a lack of pace. Time will tell.
Hold on!
Lewis Hamilton is NOT the quickest because his time has been deleted after he missed the chicane.
As you were with Stoff on top.
It's been coming - Lewis Hamilton goes fastest of all with 1:19.753, a tenth of a second quicker than Stoffel Vandoorne. Hamilton's time is on the mediums whereas Stoff's was on the hypersofts.
Time to use the word ominous?
We've got three drivers currently on track - Lewis Hamilton, Lance Stroll and Charles Leclerc.
Leclerc is 11th on the timesheet with his best time a 1:22.808.

Kayleigh: I've got bourbons, Gary!
Excellent choice. The Mercedes of the biscuit world.
Carlos Sainz cracks straight on with a timed lap as he does a 1:23.400 on softs.

Lord Roger: I thought you had sandwiches and a pasty? What happened to those?
One sandwich cut in half wasn't enough. The pasty was rubbish and I'm all out now.
And there he goes.

We've not seen much of Renault this afternoon - and by not much I mean absolutely nothing - but Carlos Sainz is out for a little rumble around the circuit now.
Speaking of rumbling, the lack of a lunch break is becoming disconcertingly apparent now. I'm getting looks of disdain from nearby colleagues as I struggle to stop my stomach from rumbling.
Anyone got any biscuits?

David Sanderson: Is it just me or are these test times a sign of massive improvement from last year? At this rate they’ll be going round Monaco in close to 60s flat!!
Jennifer Harris: I think the cooler temperatures, around 10 degrees lower than any GP we can expect, probably negates any advantage of the softer compound tyres.
Good news, Fernando Alonso fans. He's going to get a run out this afternoon after losing track time because of yesterday's snow.

Another improvement from Lewis Hamilton with 1:19.984 and he's not just a tenth of a second slower than Stoffel Vandoorne.
Remember Vandoorne's time is on the quicker hyerpsofts while Hamilton is on the mediums...
Lewis Hamilton's on the move. He is up to second now after a 1:20.324 puts him within half a second of Stoffel Vandoorne.
Vandoorne 102
Ericsson 79
Gasly 72
Vettel 71
Bottas 60
Hulkenberg 49
Magnussen 48
Sirotkin 47
Verstappen 32
Perez 31
Hamilton 19
Stroll 12
Leclerc 6
1) Vandoorne 1:19.854 hypersoft
2) Vettel 1:20.692 soft
3) Magnussen 1:21.135 soft
4) Hamilton 1:21.241 medium

12) Leclerc 1:23.905 soft
13) Sirotkin 1:31.979 inters
And make that no drivers on the track now.
Just two drivers are on the track at the moment - Lance Stroll and Max Verstappen. Stroll is steadily improving and is up to seventh following a 1:22.208 om his 11th lap of the afternoon.
Verstappen is 10th with his best time a 1:23.158. Pretty quiet day all in all for Red Bull, apart from a flurry of on-track activity before lunch Verstappen not had too much circuit time - just the 32 laps so far today.
