  7. Surprise, struggle, sadnesspublished at 21:10 Greenwich Mean Time 28 October 2018

Hamilton has been on the podium in the last nine races, but he didn't make it today.

But it doesn't matter. What a bizarre race that was, with surprise, struggle, and some sadness with unfortunate retirements.

Lewis Hamilton wins his fifth world championship

World champion Lewis Hamilton says: "It is a very strange feeling right now. Firstly I want to say a big thank you to all the fans making the Mexican Grand Prix as special as it is.

"Secondly a big thank you to my team. It wasn't won here, just throughout the season and a lot of hard work. To complete this (his fifth world title) when Fangio did it with Mercedes is an incredible feeling and very surreal.

"It was a horrible race, I had a great start, was working my way up then I don't know what was happening. We were struggling Valtteri and I.

"I'm just so grateful to God and I wouldn't be here without all the hard work my dad did and my family."

Chris Lord: Don’t think Ricciardo will be with the team celebrating the victory today (if it happens). Maybe putting his hand through a door/wall again?

F1Statster: I can completely understand the frustration and pain of the Ricciardo fans, I desperately wanted for him to get a podium as well but these genuine thoughts of conspiracy and sabotage are incredibly silly at best.
