  1. Getting warmerpublished at 12:03 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2019

    Chris Medland
    F1 journalist in Barcelona

This is probably the warmest it has been so far during testing, definitely t-shirt and shorts weather in the sun and it means good track conditions for a quick time before lunch. Russell, Stroll, Leclerc, Hulkenberg, Hamilton and Giovinazzi have all just hit the track to join Gasly, Magnussen and Albon.

Turn 1 really is an incredible place to watch an F1 car. The drives brake unfathonably late from over 200mph and throw the car in for a 90-degree right hander, picking up the throttle shortly after the apex (or at the apex if you’re Hamilton on the softer compound) and then accelerating at full throttle through Turn 2 and Turn 3.

Magnussen is the only driver taking kerb under braking - trying to open up the corner - while the Ferrari looks so responsive to the change of direction.

Last year's McLaren Formula 1 team was Fernando Alonso and this man, Stoffel Vandoorne.

No Formula 1 this year for Stoff though, but he just can't keep away.

  5. Vettel to drive this afternoonpublished at 11:48 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2019

Ferrari have confirmed that Sebastian Vettel will still be their man in the car in the second session, which gets going at 13:00 GMT time, despite limited running for Charles Leclerc because of the need to check his car's cooling system.

Leclerc is third and on track at the moment, on his 21st lap, at least 13 laps less than everyone else out there.

  6. All change at the toppublished at 11:43 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2019

Pierre Gasly was the leader, not any more.

Antonio Giovinazzi is now leading the way thanks to a lap of 1:18.589 six hundredths of a second clear of Gasly. Giovinazzi is on the P4 tyres, the second softest of the five options.

  7. Russell up to sixthpublished at 11:41 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2019

And keeping up with the F2 to F1 theme, George Russell is moving up the ranks to sixth in Barcelona.

  8. In another part of Spanish testing...published at 11:40 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2019

We've got the top three drivers in last season's 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship all in Formula 1 in 2019.

George Russell won in F2 in 2018, Lando Norris was second with Alexander Albon third so maybe we will see more drivers jump up from F2 to F1 next year.

Elsewhere, in a different part of Spain, the first testing session for Formula 2 is also taking place today and Dutchman Nyck De Vries, a member of the McLaren young driver programme since 2010, is the quickest man in the morning session over at Jerez de la Frontera with a time of 1:25.819.

Dams team-mates Sergio Sette Camara and Nicholas Latifi were second and third fastest respectively, with Mick Schumacher, son of legendary F1 driver Michael, sixth quickest in his first F2 testing session.

The most dramatic moment of a quiet morning has been Lando Norris going into the gravel. We have not seen him on track since. He was the only one from McLaren scheduled to be out there today so he should, hopefully, get a few hours later on to get back into it.

Sandbagging? They must've been sandbagging for ages. One day they will show us the true Williams. Hopefully.

    Chris Medland
    F1 journalist in Barcelona

We've only seen six laps from Ferrari so far today, which is a far cry from the relentless testing they were doing last week. Not good news for Charles Leclerc, who is only in the car this morning before handing over to Sebastian Vettel this afternoon.

Following their earlier tweet, Ferrari has now confirmed that the checks they were doing were related to the cooling system, and now that they are complete we can expect to see Leclerc back on track "very soon".
