Chris Doherty: In my 20 years of watching f1 this appears to be tightest the field has been, as a McLaren fan this could make it a long season.

Jeroen: Eighteen cars within a second. Niiiice. And Kubica is nowhere.

Nick Allflat: I like this new F1, it's not predictable as hell anymore

  2. It's a mixed up gridpublished at 06:33 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2019

We're seeing some impressive performances from our younger drivers here, including Antonio Giovinazzi and Daniil Kvyat who have appeared on the F1 grid before, but not for a while.

And of course Charles Leclerc in that Ferrari. Plus, that Alfa Romeo is quick.

Jennie Gow is with George Russell in the Williams garage, he says: "I'm proud of myself to be honest, we all know where the car is at and we need to push forward - my only comparison is Robert.

"I can leave here with my head held high. We're not doing anything silly we're just gathering data because we're still so far behind."

Martijn Kosters: Get in there Charlie!

Amit Mandalia: Apart from the Williams, I can’t see who else may not get of Q1 & the final places in Q3 seem pretty open (assuming Ferrari, Mercedes & Red Bull safely make it through) so this is going to be an exciting Qualy!

Not a great show for Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly. Both drivers didn't go out for a second run, and Gasly didn't even scrape through.

"George Russell was ahead of Robert Kubica, although that wasn't hard given Kubica drove into the wall. That's the second time in a day Kubica has had a spacial awareness, er, mistake."

He punctured and went across the grass to head back to the pitlane.

Daniil Kvyat has been looking promising through pre-season testing and our practice sessions. Perhaps he can escape Helmut Marko's driver guillotine this year.

Roxy: Successfully stayed awake through the night for qualifying. It better be a good one.

Jeremiah Kariuki: Are Mercedes going to upset the pundits apple cart? Or Have Ferrari been hiding their speed? We are just about to see that. Going for Hamilton, Vettel and Bottas in that order for Pole position.

Jeroen: I’m calling it: Williams WILL make the 107%.

Sebastian Vettel likes a cheeky line and he calls this the time: "You pull your pants down and show everyone what you've got".

Usually, it's Lewis Hamilton who makes the biggest impression on a Saturday afternoon, and he has topped all three practice sessions. But do Ferrari have something up their sleeves? This is the moment of truth.
