  2. 'I'm proud, no question'published at 12:29 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2022

If there isn't a Norbert Vettel fan club set up already, I think I'll start one after we wrap for the season.

Here is Norbert talking about how the Vettel family's journey into Formula 1 began and the impact his four-time world champion has had on the sport.

"I'm the father and for me, it was every time the driver, the best. I say, Seb, thank you for all these nice times. Have a good time."

  3. Would Red Bull role be good for Ricciardo?published at 12:28 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2022

Daniel Ricciardo's time at Red Bull brought him seven race victories and three pole positions between 2014 and 2018 but is it a good idea for the Australian to go back to the team and not be a main driver?

Wake up your thumbs and let me know using the BBC Sport thumbs below.

Daniel Ricciardo is set for a role as Red Bull third driver next season.

The Australian, who is being released from his contract by McLaren at the end of this season after a disappointing year, is close to a deal to return to his former team.

Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko told BBC Sport he was "talking" to Ricciardo about the position.

However, he played down remarks he had earlier made to Sky Germany in which he suggested the move was certain.

"He could be reserve driver," Marko said.

But sources say that a deal between the two parties will be sealed in the coming days, and that Ricciardo will rejoin the team with whom he took seven of his eight grand prix victories.

It's possibly more of a 'see you later' for Daniel Ricciardo, rather than a permanent farewell to the McLaren driver. So, where could the eight-time grands prix winner end up for 2023?

Nicholas Latifi's time in Formula 1 is also coming to a close in Abu Dhabi. The Canadian didn't have a stellar qualifying yesterday but his best position in a race this season has been ninth at the Japanese Grand Prix in October.

"One of the nicest guys in the paddock and wishing you all the best with what you do next," wrote his Williams team-mate Alex Albon.

  10. 'It had been a dream, it seemed so far out of reach' - Vettelpublished at 12:14 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2022

    Sebastian VettelImage source, Getty Images

Sebastian Vettel taking to Jenson Button on Sky Sports: "It's always after so many races, its sort of relaxing in the the run up. It’s the last hour when it all ramps up. Right now it's ok.

On his F1 Journey: "It has been a lot more than I had imagined. It had been a dream, it seemed so far out of reach. It's been much much more than I imagined. So much passion, so many people put in the effort, you can't do it anywhere near this level without them. This is what I'll miss. The people with the common goal.

On his life after retirement: It'll be a different life after F1. I look forward to the difference.

On his message to his fans: "I will be in the same position [shedding a tear after he crosses the line]. Its been incredible, so much support over the years. That’s something you can't imagine as a child. You imagine wins and trophies but as a child you can't image the support. So thank you, it's been so good to be part of so many teams, cars and trophies.

On his last race with Aston Martin: "Realistic we have the fight in our hands to beat or get P6 in the constructors. It'll be nice to be in the points and cross the line."

  12. Slightly cooler daypublished at 12:10 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2022

    Andrew Benson
BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer in Abu Dhabi

It has been a slightly cooler day, with a touch more cloud cover, so track temperatures leading up to the race have been slightly lower than on Friday and Saturday, although whether that makes any difference once the race starts remains to be seen. Hopes in the paddock are not high for an entertaining final grand prix of the season. The Red Bulls look a class apart so Max Verstappen is expected to romp to a 15th win, extending his record, and Sergio Perez’s chances of beating Charles Leclerc to second place in the championship seem pretty strong.

Likewise, Mercedes have not shown the pace they have in the last three weekends. They usually go forwards in the race. But the third row is usually too far back to challenge for a victory, especially when the hot favourite is on pole. Mercedes are 19 points behind Ferrari in their fight for second place in the constructors’ championship. McLaren have the same margin to Alpine in fourth - a task made even harder by racing for lower positions.

Fernando Alonso is looking forward to a final battle with his old rival Sebastian Vettel - they start alongside each other on the fifth row. Winning it would not exactly make up for the two titles Alonso lost to Vettel in agonising circumstances in 2010 and 2012, but there is honour at stake, as was seen in their photo-finish in Japan, so the two are likely to provide a fair bit of entertainment.

Carlos Sainz was fourth, as Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell filled the third row.

  16. 'He’s a very caring individual'published at 11:55 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2022

    Daniel RicciardoImage source, Getty Images

The drivers paid tribute to Sebastian Vettel in the press conference on Thursday. Here are a few personal memories:

Daniel Ricciardo:"As a person, I can speak so highly of him, also on a personal level. Some things that he’s done for me; I'm just very appreciative of. I think he’s a very caring individual, cares about the sport overall, but cares about us drivers."

Fernando Alonso:"It’s going to be strange to not have him next year, in the first race. We shared so many things over the last 15 years. Sometimes we fought for championships, sometimes for seventh places, even in Japan (2022) until the finish line."

Sebastian Vettel and Charles LeclercImage source, Getty Images

Charles Leclerc:"I remember already in Formula 2, I was doing the simulator work [for Ferrari] which it's not an easy work to do because it’s really, really tiring and I thought that Seb probably didn’t even know I was on the simulator. I received a letter one day just thanking me for all the hard work and that meant a lot for me at that time - but that was only a small thing."

Max Verstappen:"For me, one thing I will always remember for the rest of my life was last year at Silverstone. I came back from the hospital to get to my motorhome and get all my stuff. He was there waiting for me when I got out of the car. "He said, ‘How are you doing Max, are you okay?’, and that just shows how he is: a super nice, caring person who is not only there for performance, but also means well."

This is very much Sebastian Vettel's weekend after a such an outstanding career in Formula 1 but his dad, Norbert, is also having a whale of a time soaking up the party atmosphere for his son.

There was a huge turnout on the Yas Marina Circuit last night as Sebastian Vettel invited the entire paddock to either run or walk the track with him. 'Danke, Seb' T-shirts were made, with the man himself wearing a 'Danke, F1' shirt.

Mick Schumacher, of course, was right at the front with his mentor, confidante and friend and Vettel's other protege, Charles Leclerc, also came out to support his old Ferrari team-mate.
