They have unleashed the bull in Red Bull. That is some serious speed shown from Verstappen and Perez there. That's what we've all been fearing.
Positive shoots for Mercedes as George Russell sits in fourth place on the timesheets.
The Canadian driver and his injured wrist doesn't stay at the top for long as team-mate Fernando Alonso and the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton chase him down.
The two Red Bulls are on the prowl and instantly swipe a one-two, with Max Verstappen two tenths faster than his team-mate Sergio Perez.
Lance Stroll crosses the line to put down the first time of 1:32.305 in the Aston Martin.

It is now critical you drive a very strong lap, no mistakes. Otherwise you could get swallowed up and your day could be done in Q2.

JJ: What's more disappointing? Being established driver and new gun only just off your pace, or being new boy and not quite beating established team mate?
Andrew: Pleasantly surprised with how bunched the whole grid is from front-to-back after Q1. Long may it continue.

People did tell me at the end of testing that McLaren would be right at the back. It just underlines the trouble they are in. They unveiled their car and the first thing they said was that they missed all their targets.
I also would not have expected Alpine out in Q1 with one car and possibly out in Q2 with the other.
Q2 is green.
This is how Q1 looks after that time lap deletion for Frenchman Gasly.

20. Pierre Gasly (Alpine)
Some drivers have fallen foul of tracks limits and have had lap times deleted.
Alpine's Pierre Gasly is one of them, who now finds himself dropped to 20th on the grid.
Lando Norris and Logan Sargeant clocked the exact same time, but as the McLaren secured his first, it's Williams' Sargeant who goes out in Q1.

There were concerns for Williams that they and AlphaTauri would be at the back but Alex Albon puts in a solid enough lap.
Hamilton is in a little bit of danger here.
Can Oscar Piastri follow his new team-mate out of the darkness? No. The Australian is 17th place on his first qualifying outing.
Nico Hulkenberg lifts his Haas into the top 10 and into sixth spot.
One McLaren is out of danger. Lando Norris climbs up into 13th place.
Alex Albon is the first driver to go for another flying lap. The Williams man is safe for Q1 in 13th place but can he improve? He's got a fair bit of traffic to contend with.
Albon moves up into seventh, while Yuki Tsunoda goes sixth and Lance Stroll jumps from 20th up into fifth.
