No-one wants to see one guy and one team dominating the championship but you have to take your hat off to Red Bull, they have designed an all-time great car and they've got in it an all-time great driver. It's just unfortunate that one of the other all-time great drivers on the grid doesn't have a car as good.

Off they go. Logan Sargeant and Charles Leclerc will start this race from the pit lane. Pierre Gasly is 10th after his six-place grid drop.

Polesitter Max Verstappen has opted for medium tyres to start with. His Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez is also yellow down in P11. The rest of the top 10 have bolted on the soft rubber.

  9. Verstappen in controlpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 4 June 2023

Sergio Perez left the Monaco Grand Prix empty handed and now his Red Bull team-mate holds a 39-point advantage over the Mexican at the top of the drivers' championship.

Max Verstappen can extend his lead even further today if he secures his fifth win of the season in Barcelona.

Perez also has to keep one eye on Fernando Alonso, as the Aston Martin man is just 12 points behind him in third following the Spaniard's second-placed finish a week ago.

A slight reassurance perhaps will be the fact Alonso is away from the frontrunners and starting in P8 this weekend.

  10. Mercedes catching Aston Martinpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 4 June 2023

Red Bull are charging away from their rivals after another victory and now hold an 129-point advantage at the top of the constructors' championship.

Third-placed Mercedes are just one point behind Aston Martin in second after Lewis Hamilton and George Russell both finished in the top 10 and Lance Stroll suffered a rotten run and retired in Monte Carlo.

Esteban Ocon's podium and Pierre Gasly's seventh place a week ago means Alpine have now put a bit of breathing space between themselves and McLaren.

Jeremiah Kariuki: There are drivers I don't expect to finish where they start. Lando Norris may not finish on the podium. Expect Hamilton, Perez and Alonso to charge towards the podium.

Andrew Priestley: Max will disappear up the road by himself, but the battle between Sainz, Lando, Lewis and a charging Alonso for the final two podium positions should be a fascinating watch.
