Congratulations to Mel Elliott and James Parker who got married this morning! After the ceremony in Greenwich, they've put on their running gear and are taking part in the marathon.

"As keen runners we wanted to do the London Marathon together and what better opportunity to do it but as newlyweds," explains Mel.

"Within days of securing the charity places, I had the registrars and venue booked."

We've just spotted a lady stacking it just a few metres from the finish line. Her legs have totally gone from underneath her. It makes your stomach turn.

Shout out to the steward who ran straight out, scooped her up and dragged her over the finish line.

    Heroes, the lot of them.

Did you even do the London Marathon if you didn't dress up as a Spice Girl/superhero/member of the clergy?

Here are a few records that the crazy British public are looking to set this year - while dressed in a silly costume.

    • Fastest marathon wearing ski boots – Colin Haylock is racing towards a six-hour target.
    • Fastest marathon carrying an ironing board and iron – Andy Farrer is looking for a smooth finish with a 4:15:00 record.
    • Fastest marathon dressed as a whoopee cushion – Oliver Hill needs a 3:38:15 finish for this bizarre record.
    • Fastest marathon dressed as Mr Potato Head – Andrew Patterson will try and break current record of 3:24:19...while dresses as a spud.

In 2017, after running almost 26 miles, David Wyeth's legs literally collapsed under him, just metres from the finish line.

Matt Rees stopped to help him along, sacrificing his own finish time, and the video of his heroics went viral.

They decided to start this year's race together and we're pleased to report they've both come through unscathed!

    Hugs all round.

    T53/54 men's wheelchair race

After winning the men's T53/54 wheelchair race, David Weir told BBC One: "After Rio I think last year was a really weird year for me, both mentally and physically.

"I didn’t really celebrate the seventh win in London, but having that time away and thinking about what I want to do, it helped me fall back in love with the sport again. Coming back this year has been good and I feel strong.

"I feel refreshed and motivated to do the rest of the marathons now. My training over the winter is a lot better and facilities indoor are all set up which has helped me keep my weight down as well.

"My speed is getting better and I’m still progressing."

Mo Farah on his second major marathon: "I am knackered, the guys just went for it, at world record pace. It was do or die, I went for it and hung in as much as I could.

"It's so different to being on the track, it's different pain and different training but I've enjoyed it. You get heavy legs, mentally you need to be strong and pace yourself."

  20. Farah third in London Marathonpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 22 April 2018

Mo Farah discussing what happened at the drink station on BBC One: "The drink station was confusing, I was table four, I went to pick it up. The staff were helpful at the end but at the beginning they were trying to take a picture rather than giving me the drink.

"I was saying to the people on motorbikes to tell the staff to be a bit helpful instead of taking pictures. I wasn't wasting energy, I just needed a drink. I had to get it right.

"I really enjoyed today, I gave 110% like I always do. I've got a lot to learn about the marathon but as long as I can keep doing it. I haven't seen my kids in three months and I am excited to see them."
