  2. Sagstrom sends Euros two uppublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

    2UP Sagstrom & Hall v Kang & Ernst (2)

That's a bad miss from Ernst from about five feet on the second green, and that opens the door for Sagstrom who has a putt from about a foot closer to take the hole.

As if there was any doubt! Sagstrom slots it home to make it a two-hole lead after just two holes played. Fantastic start for Europe's lead-off pair.

  3. Match three under waypublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

    M Reid & L Maguire v N Korda & A Ewing

So, for the first time in the Solheim Cup Nelly Korda is not playing with big sis Jessica in the foursomes format.

The Americans were big 6&5 and 6&4 winners at Gleneagles in their alternate shot matches but were beaten by this European pairing of the experienced Mel Reid and rookie Leona Maguire yesterday.

Ireland's Maguire, who won two points on Saturday, hits the first shot. A little bit left but in the first cut.

A big cheer for Korda despite the world number one tugging her three-wood straight into a bunker.

  4. Thompson tentative on the greenpublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

    Hull & Pedersen A/S Thompson & Altomare (1)

Lexi Thompson is a tremendous player, but if there is one slight chink in the armour it's on the greens - and it's not a good early sign with the flat stick as she misses the chance to take the first hole.

Hull almost landed a bomb from a mile out, but when it just slid by the right edge then Thompson had six feet to go ahead, but produced a poor putt to stay level.

Only early - but that'll hurt.

    Hull & Pedersen A/S Thompson & Altomare

You can bet Lexi Thompson and Brittany Altomare would've been desperate to get another shot at Charley Hull and Emily Pedersen and their wish has been granted today.

We always love a rematch in team golf, very rarely do we get it just 24 hours later and in the same format.

This one will be tasty today, these four are all fierce competitors.

  6. Sagstrom strikes!published at 12:31 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

    1UP Sagstrom & Hall v Kang & Ernst (1)

My word, that eight-foot birdie putt that Madelene Sagstrom has just rolled in to claim the opening hole will feel so sweet for the Swede!

She's got a genuine eye of the tiger look as she fist bumps Hall and they walk off the first green one up already.

You get the impression she was pleading with Catriona Matthew to send her out first today...

    Sagstrom & Hall v Kang & Ernst

Sagstrom gets the drive away nicely and Georgia Hall follows up with a superb second shot that finds the green and within birdie range.

The Europeans dressed in yellow today with the Americans sporting mainly white. We've already heard a shot out of the rough and it's a lot juicier today after some overnight rain.

Many people not happy with the ruling, most people don't think the ball was overhanging.

  11. Get Involved - 'Hang-gate'published at 12:09 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

    #bbcgolf

Just in case you missed it, here's what all the talk has been about as Madelene Sagstrom picks up Nelly Korda's ball from beside the hole to concede her putt.

That seemed to be that until the rules official stepped in and said because the ball was overhanging the edge of the hole, Sagstrom had to wait 10 seconds, to allow the ball time to drop, before touching the ball.

So was the ball overhanging? Should Sagstrom have waited the 10 seconds? Should the rules official have got involved?

  12. 'It mars such a great day of golf' - Matthew on controversypublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

Europe captain Catriona Matthew described the now infamous pick-up as an "unfortunate incident" but said she felt the "fuzzy pictures" she saw were "inconclusive".

She added: "I 100% believe Madelene did not think the ball had any chance of going in the hole and I don't believe Nelly or Ally thought it was going in either.

"There was no reaction when Madelene threw the ball to them. It kind of mars such a great day of golf."

After the match, a clearly emotional Sagstrom conceded she had not followed the rules - she picked up the ball after seven seconds - but she still felt aggrieved by the decision.

"I do believe in integrity and honour the game of golf. I would never pick up a putt that had a chance to go in," she said on Sky Sports.

"I personally don't agree with the decision of the ball being on the edge [of the hole] but I didn't follow the 10-second rule, so it sucks right now because I feel like I let my team down."

World number one Nelly Korda added: "That situation was unfortunate and you don't want to win a hole like that. We had no say in it. It was all up to the rules officials."

  14. Welcome back!published at 12:01 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

    USA 1 ½ Europe 5 ½

Welcome to the second day of the Solheim Cup - hopefully you've caught your breath after Saturday's incredible events in Ohio.

Most matches went the distance, Europe were down, up, down and up again, and of course there was 'that' controversy involving Madelene Sagstrom.

There's been a whole lot of 'when is a ball overhanging?' talk going on that's for sure - hopefully that's the last time the rules officials have to step in in this event.
